My son was sitting in bouncer whilst I was making toast. I took a phone call, and smoke Alarm went off.

Will he be ok? the smell and smoke was quite strong.

As soon as I could , I opened all the doors and windows and took him away from kitchen.

I think you should call 999 or take him to A&E immediately*

*Joking. How do you think burning toast might have affected him?

ItsHedLey · 20/09/2019 03:38
Hmm

@MrsJoshNavidi when I first started reading this my heart was pounding lol.

It was more how smoky it got. It even gave me a slight headache

It's just toast, not a house fire. He'll be fine

pumkinspicetime · 20/09/2019 03:45

I see what you are saying OP but as a one off that was very quickly dealt with your dc will be fine.

Poppins2016 · 20/09/2019 03:47

He'll be ok. Walking past traffic, smokers, etc. is a normal part of every day life (unfortunately!) and this is similar.

Remember that heat and smoke rises, so you will have inhaled the worst of it as your DS was close to the floor in his bouncer.

You seem rather anxious, is everything ok?

Soon2BeMumof3 · 20/09/2019 03:50

He's fine.

Do you find yourself worrying about things like this a lot?

It's hard being a new mum. Might be worth a GP appointment to see if you're having a bit of anxiety.

TheMustressMhor · 20/09/2019 04:39

I promise you that your baby will be absolutely fine (nurse/midwife here.)

kaelaAmumma2b · 20/09/2019 05:03

Thanks everyone for the reassurance, I really appreciate it.

Your baby will be exposed to worse sitting in the car in a traffic jam.

8by8 · 20/09/2019 06:10

That’s the kind of thing I worried about when I had severe post natal anxiety and ultimately needed counselling and medication.

Maybe see your GP for advice?

It’s honestly fine, won’t have harmed him.

kaelaAmumma2b · 20/09/2019 10:28

@8by8 really? I must book in and see my GP. I have so many worries and it never crossed my mind. I thought I was just over cautious! Thanks for the info , I'll book myself in this week.

it is natural to worry to some extent, especially with your first child

when my children each first fell of something eg bed or sofa as a baby

DS1 - rang FIL in tears to take us to minor injuries,
DD - rang NHS direct
DS2 - picked him up and gave him a cuddle and carried on with my day!
