Standard nursery approach or just vile?

My DD is toilet training at the moment and whilst she is mostly ok with the wees, she is having a lot of poo accidents.

When she has a poo accident, nursery are cleaning her up and changing her but leaving the poo in the pants regardless of the size of it 🤢 We then have a “bag of joy” to open up and sort out in the evening. I appreciate that cleaning my daughter’s pants isn’t part of their job description but couldn’t they put the poo into the toilet?! I had to wash the clean clothes in her bag last night as everything smelled of poo. 🤥

I’m just wondering whether this is standard and I should just put up with it or complain.

When I was a nursery nurse, we'd always tip what we could down the toilet.

Pants are so cheap. Bin em

Vile. My kids preschool wouldn't have done this. (Is there a possibility there is a young person in their room who knows no better?)

My dds nursery binned her pants the first (and only!!) time this happened. Words were had.

I work in care and would shake off what I could to flush then yes the rest would be left and double bagged.

soundsystem · 19/09/2019 19:04

Yuck! Mine have gone to two different pew-schools and in both the poo would be tipped down the loo.

Ok, It's not their job to wash pants, so there would be some poo stains on the pants to deal with but I wouldn't expect an actual poo in a bag!

Surely it's the same a what they do with younger children who are in cloth nappies?! (Give the nappies back to be washed l, having flushed the poo!)

*pre-schools

radioactiveimagination · 19/09/2019 19:07

My DDs nursery did this, I told them it was fine to throw away the pants if she pooed herself, rather that than deal with them myself. As a PP said, pants are cheap!

What kind of nursery is it and how old is your daughter? If it’s a primary school nursery (ages 3 plus) then I think it’s lucky they even do that, I know the 3 my children have used expect the children to be rocket trained, and will always ring parents to deal with poo accidents. If it’s a nursery for younger children then yes, they should be dealing with it better than sticking the whole shite in a bag.

Rocket trained 😂

nespressowoo · 19/09/2019 19:17

My son's tipped what the could down the loo and rinsed them. It is a brilliant nursery. They were then double-bagged. I just soak in napisan then wash.

There was once when his nappy leaked and his shorts were absolutely covered in poo, I didn't blame them for not rinsing them. I chucked them straight in the bin.

RightMover · 19/09/2019 19:26

Im a nursery practitioner. When we have soiled pants I clean them to the best of my ability- put the poo down the toilet and rinse as well as I can. Then double bag to send home, explaining what's happened.
I would probably mention it to the room leader if I was you.

Thanks for the responses. Glad to know it’s not just me that thinks this is disgusting. I shall be having words.

To clarify, it’s a private nursery catering for children 0-5 years. DD is 3 years and in the pre-school room.

Ours chuck the pants away if particularly bad! Don’t think I’d like to be faced with a whole poo....😳. Not sure that’s normal!

Kanga83 · 19/09/2019 19:46

Our did this too- granted it wasn't a particularly easy poo, but could have been either chucked with the pants or most of it in the toilet. They said they normally throw them, but they didn't know what I would prefer.

Gillian1980 · 20/09/2019 13:08

Dd’s Nursery got rid of what they could in the loo then bag up the knickers.

Bol87 · 20/09/2019 21:29

Eww.

Thankfully we are now past that stage but they would tip the poo & rinse the pants for us! They rinsed the pants for wee’s too!

I’d expect the poo to be tipped really, that’s pretty unhygienic!

hazeyjane · 20/09/2019 21:36

Tip what we can and rinse in the flush if it is less than solid...then double bag

If it’s a primary school nursery (ages 3 plus) then I think it’s lucky they even do that, I know the 3 my children have used expect the children to be rocket trained, and will always ring parents to deal with poo accidents. No early years settings should be doing this, whatever type of setting they are.

Can't believe there are nurseries either leaving entire poos in pants or binning the pants--that is beyond wasteful. How on earth do they think cloth diaper users manage? You shake the poo off into the toilet, and do a "dip and flush" which gets most of the rest of it off. It takes a few seconds, really.
