Is green poo okay?

Hello,

My baby is formula fed and 5 months old. He usually has quite normal orangey/brown poo's, but the last two have been runny and green. Any ideas what this means?

It's too late to ring a health visitor but he's showing no other signs of issues and is asleep. Just wondering?

Thanks :)

Can be a virus, teething (excess saliva in the gut), vaccine reaction - has he had the oral rotavirus vaccination recently?

My wee one has green poo, I've told two dr's and they weren't concerned at all.

If they're fine in themselves it's fine. Might be slightly under the weather, or maybe teething.

Nothing to worry about though!

Mine has green runny poos only when she’s teething. They smell horrendous too.

Green poo can be due to surplus iron. The body expels what it doesn't need/ can't absorb and turns their poo green as a result and occasionally loose too. I learnt this from my little boys dietitian. He has a cows milk allergy and a lot of the milk free and colic easing formulas are iron rich so his poos were green until he went onto solids. It sometimes even says on the back of the formula tub about it. It's not harmful at all though.

Mine have both had phases of green-ish poo when teething or had colds etc. It seems to be quite normal from speaking to other parents.

Thanks everyone, he's teething very badly and now has a cold, so all makes sense thank you.
