What time does your child(ren) eat dinner?

2 year old has recently dropped his nap. Absolutely fine, just started putting him to bed earlier. Old routine when he had a nap was:
Dinner at 6pm when his dad got home from work
Quiet play and tidy then in the bath for 7-7.30 depending on what time he woke up
Into bed for 7.30-8 but wouldn't actually go to sleep for ages!!

He's been MUCH better since he's stopped naps. Great!!

Brought dinner to 5 30 (I eat with him) then goes straight upstairs at 6pm when his dad gets home, in the bath by 6.15 and usually asleep by 7 (and sleeping through, hurrah!)

Still tweaking the routine now, so was wondering if I should give him tea at 5pm instead to leave food settle.

What time does your DC eat their evening meal and go for a bath?

Mine are much older 19,15,8 and 7 although things haven't changed much since they were babies.
Dinner is anywhere between 5:00 and 7:00 depending on activities, what I'm cooking, who's here etc.
Mine don't have nightly baths as they shower in the mornings.
The younger two go up to bed between 7:30 and 8:00 then read/have a CD on for half an hour before lights out.

At your DC's age dinner was still very variable but bed would be 7:30 regardless.

Usually around 6pm, never earlier than 5.30. Her nursery days she eats around 6.15/6.20 as that's the earliest we can manage. She's 15 months and it's always been the same since we started weaning at 6months. We don't bath her routinely before bed though. She's usually put to bed around 7pm.

Long time ago now but we always ate as a family around 7pm, even when little one was in high chair. Mine didn't go to bed that early, always bathed or showered in the morning with me unless they'd got themselves dirty and sweaty in which case a quick one at night too.

After eating a little reading, playing and relaxation until sleepy.

This is going to be a rare answer I feel, but DS (16 months) and I have a leisurely dinner at 5, then bath/stories and bed at 7. If I leave the evening meal any later he's too tired to eat. Plus, I work from home, so I don't have to factor in a commute.

He sleeps through until 7, so this works beautifully for him. All little people are different though.

@Kiki92 We do the same times except we watch in the night garden because the 19mo is uncultured and hates books.

Mine is 2 currently 3 in December she has tea anytime between 5 and 6 and is in bed by 7.15. Tea is maybe a bit early on the nights I bath her or if she has had dinner early which can be between 12 and 1. Sleeps from 7.15 to 7.30am no naps.

I have a 3 yr old who doesn’t nap and a 1 yr old who does. we all eat together around 5/5.30 (DH works from home) and then they have baths (not every night) and are usually asleep around 6.30/7

Stardustmoon · 17/09/2019 18:57

My 2 yr old eats at 5pm

Kingtiger101 · 17/09/2019 19:35

Literally exactly the same as you. 2 and a half year old has recently dropped naps so we now eat at 5.30 (used to be 6). And she’s asleep by 7.30 (and not 10pm!). So much better without naps!

Doje · 17/09/2019 19:40

We eat at 5pm.

DH isn't home until 6.30pm and bedtime for the DCs is 7pm, so we can't eat together most nights. I eat with the kids though. I find it difficult to wait to eat past 7pm these days!

mindutopia · 17/09/2019 20:37

Mine are 6 and 19 months. Dinner is 6:30/7pm and bath straight after and usually in bed 8:30/9pm. We just couldn’t do it any earlier than that as we’re only getting home at 5 and then one of us has to prep and cook dinner. That works fine for us, but I think it’s so dependent on what your day looks like.

Caterina99 · 18/09/2019 02:49

2 and 4 year old. They usually eat around 5.30. Bedtime is 7ish and DH and I eat once they’re in bed as he doesn’t get home from work til about 6.30

Clettercletterthatsbetter · 18/09/2019 05:58

Mine are almost 2 and 4 and have a similar routine to you - dinner about 5.30/6, bath about 6.30 and bed for about 7.15 (I think the added delay is accounted for by having to coerce two to eat, get into pyjamas, 2x stories and songs, etc.!)

Older DC (9&7) and my answer is "do what works, when it works" and don't worry about it. When ds was a toddler he was exhausted by 6pm so used to eat at 4-30-5pm so he'd eat properly. DD never had that problem so then we moved to between 5:30-6pm. Now, with after school stuff and sports, it varies between "peanut butter sandwiches and fruit in the car at 4:30" and "7pm when they get home from hockey".
