Bathing

Am I bad for not feeling confident yet in bathing my baby? She's 2 weeks old today & me & my partner have talked about bathing her but there's just never been a good time due to her routine of sleep & feeds & she's not awake for long but sleeps for ages. I also didn't feel confident sponge bathing her whilst her cord was still attached & now that's fell off I know she will be able to have a proper little bath (or dunk in her baby bath tub) but I'm just so anxious I'm going to do it all wrong or she will be upset & not like it. Any tips?

Aw, there's no rush. You've got plenty of time until she actually needs a bath. If it helps, my baby has always loved bathtime and it is her happiest time of day, so it may well be a nice experience!

We use a little bath seat that DD can lie back in. Make sure the water is the right temperature, keep the lighting low if possible, talk in soothing tones, have a sponge and a toy for her. Sometimes we listen to some gentle music. We put a warm wet flannel on her tummy for her to feel secure. It's also a good idea to have a jug so you can pour warm water over her gently. You don't need to get her hair or head wet the first time.

Make sure you've got a warm towel ready for her when she gets out.

Good luck! It can be a lovely start to your bedtime routine.

Don't worry, it took forever for me to feel confident giving my DD a bath. For ages it was something we did together, me and DH.
Your DD doesn't need lots of baths yet, as she doesn't get very dirty.
My DD hated baths for a few weeks, so if she doesn't enjoy it don't let it out you off! From about 6weeks she loved it and is a total water baby now!
Best of luck, you are doing great ☺️

I have a baby bath that has a seat built into it like this:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Nuby-Baby-Bath-Built-Headrest/dp/B07KRWYWM1/ref=ascdff_B07KRWYWM1/?tag=googshopuk-21&linkCode=df0&hvadid=310233425912&hvpos=1o1&hvnetw=g&hvrand=7020417372947506689&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=m&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9046392&hvtargid=pla-633678218624&psc=1&th=1&psc=1

It means I don't have to hold her the same way as in a normal bath as she is on the little seat bit.

Both my kids love baths from day 1 and makes for a lovely evening routine.
But do it when you're ready.

Congratulations!

My DS had a bath in the hospital as he was disgusting! He hates bathing at home in the early weeks so we only did it twice a week and as quickly as possible. I really rated the Shnuggle bath we used after about 3 months.

My baby is 9 weeks old and she absolutely loves the bath. She goes silent and just stares at us and smiles when she's in there! Give it a go you might be surprised.

Thanks guys just I feel she is dirty, but you're advice & tips are very reassuring. Maybe it's just me with lack of confidence being a mum for the first time. Maybe I just feel I'm doing nothing right by her! Hate feeling this way Sad

Just use a washing up bowl to start with. Get the towel ready by the side and just give it a g. Lots of them like a bath. Smile

Get a shnuggle bath. With my first I really struggled bathing her and I hated it. I never got good with it. This time with a shnuggle bath it is so much easier.
