Baby has fractured foot :( :(

Hi all,

I am feeling like the worst mummy 😭

Yesterday I slid down the stairs carrying my one year old boy. I suffered bad whiplash in my neck and bruising but worse is my poor boy fractured a bone in his foot :( :( he is being so brave and is in a cast.

From experience, does anyone know how long these bones take to heal roughly (I know every child is different)? Trying to stop him standing up and walking is proving tricky already and of course he doesn't understand why I keep stopping him. It is one of the bones in his toe we believe.

I feel so guilty 😫 x

Kids bones are softer than adults, so can be easier to fracture. 6-8 weeks is the average given healing time, depends on break and the individual though so MN won't be able to tell you. Of course you feel guilty but accidents happen. Wishing you guys a speedy recovery OP.

Not your fault!

Have you been told he can't use it? If it's in a cast, surely it would be OK? Or is it not a hard cast?

Thanks both. Yep completely get it will vary I just wasn't even given even a rough time from hospital!!

@DeadCucumber this is what I thought, I think they said definitely until it hardens so hopefully after a few days it will be ok to use a bit. Although he seems reluctant but frustrated.

You can buy these special plastic bags with a seal online so that you can still bathe him.

Are you sure they said several days for such a tiny cast to harden ? My DDs took a couple of days but it was a full leg cast on a 9 year old , so much much bigger and thicker.

I didn’t know that they plastered toes unless it was the big toe. Are you in the UK OP?

@0lga thank you that is exactly what I need!

It goes half way up towards his knee. Yes I am in uk.

Oh no! 😞 not your fault and it could happen to any of us but of course the mum guilt is severe.
Bless him handling it like a little trooper
