Teething / Calpol

My 4.5m dd is teething - can now see a big lump on gum and a tiny oval starting to push through. She is not her usual happy self and will not be put down.

Would you give your dc Calpol in this situation? It feels wrong, though i don't know why - I would give it in a shot if she had an ear infection causing her pain.

wdyt?

I feel exactly like you. So I got some Nelson teething granules, and they seemed to do the trick - along with loads of cuddles!!!

Yes, I would.

Teething can be horribly painful, and if the Calpol helps her then whyever not?

Absolutely. I've had teething pain as an adult and it is awful.

Thanks all. Teething powders help a little but not much, so I think I'll try a little does of calpol and see what happens.

I know this has been answered - but Calpol (and Medised at night ) is the only thing that helps my DS when teething so why not? Pain is pain, wherever it is!

LIZS · 08/08/2007 14:45

Most of the time we found Dentinox gel sufficient , but used Calpol when not.

fizzylemonade · 08/08/2007 19:40

I used and still use the 3 pronged attack,

teething powder (I'm using Boots Alternatives)

then Anbesol (which I use for mouth ulcers)

then medised at night (there is a God) or calpol in day backed up with nurofen if needed.

Ds1 cut his first tooth at just 5 months.

fizzylemonade · 08/08/2007 19:42

Anbesol is for teething or mouth ulcers in case anyone reading thinks I am giving my wee ones adult medicine

I find it better than teething gels as it is liquid it stays where you put it.

Chirpygirl · 08/08/2007 20:15

God yes, anbesol is a lifesaver as it is such a small bottle it can go everywhere with you.
I was the same and was worried but then I rememebered being doped to the eyeballs when my wisdom teeth came through, and I understood what the pain was, so gave her calpol. I did only give it to her at night though so she didn't get accustomed to it IYSWIM and used anbesol in the daytime.

mylittlefreya · 09/08/2007 20:26

Definitely, calpol gel, liquid, plus/minus ibuprofen. You wouldn't deprive a talking child or adult, so why a baby. It's not wrong, it's ok to feel like that, but it really isn't wrong.

NannyL · 09/08/2007 20:42

YES

i would try teething powders and anbesol / bongella 1st

and if still suffering then calpol by day time and medised by night / nap time!

It hurts... so if they need pain relief then give it.
