When does "dropping" start for parties and playdates?

Oldest is starting reception and will be 5 in a few months so I feel I'm now at the pointy end of this ettiquette question.

We've done one playdate where another child was dropped at mine but I knew the mum and child quite well in advance and she had an older one so it was harder to stay. Are there any general ettiquette rules? I've been to a few birthday parties of older kids where it seems like most parents drop but a small volunteer cabal of parents remains - do you just sort of ask for volunteers for that sort of thing? I'd certainly be just as happy not needing to feed and water one adult per child at kids' parties...

dropping for playdates was pretty immediate - but we probably didn't do any playdates for at least the first term.

Parties - probably year 1 or 2 - can't remember now.

Drop offs for parties started around year 3 for mine but if the party was a distance away some parents do stay. Play dates it's been a drop off and pick up since year 1 tbh, unless I'm friends with the child's mum.

Agree - depends on child and logistics.

definitely majority stay in reception, although sometimes parents will arrange for a friend to represent their child as well as their own.

It started a four for us (specified on invitations thankfully).
