Lightweight travel cot for toddlers

I've been having a look at the best travel cot 2019 reviews. We have a Hauck travel cot but that lives at DPs unless we are going away. Have no complaints apart from thin mattress (but DD slept on it fine for a few nights over the BH weekend - we have the foam mattress but couldn't take it with us as too much stuff on the train!), and heavy for travel on public transport/walking. I was going to buy the Red Kite Sleeptight because it's so cheap and lighter than the Hauk, can see it has a thin mattress too - thinner than the Hauck or comparable? I also note the dimensions are smaller. It says can be used to up to 3 but I've stayed in a hotel before with a travel cot about a month ago and I remember thinking to myself, what do you do if you have an older toddler that isn't big enough for a bed yet, because there's no way that travel cot would have fitted a bigger/older toddler! Would the Red Kite dimensions be big enough for a bigger toddler? Or any other recommendations for a travel cot that would be suitable for a toddler and also as lightweight as possible for travel?

Ooh another thing - the Hauk is pretty deep so it's not easy putting her in and out of it, even less so hanging over it to pat her to sleep for ages if she's unsettled, kills my back. A cot that has lower sides would be good too!

Can't help with cot weights as they all seem heavy to me but we've just been away with DS in travel cots from hotels that were all the standard Red Kite one you see everywhere and he just slept diagonally (he's 19 mo but the same weight & height as the average 2 year old).

How would they do with an inflatable ReadyBed - too small for that? I’m not sure what age the pop up travel cots go up to?

I think after 18/24 months they can just sleep in a normal bed when travelling
The babybjorn is probably the smallest folding but decent size travel cot otherwise

Readybed might be a good idea for the future actually, thanks for that. I just realised I didn't actually say DD's age Blush. She's only 14 months so is fine in an average size travel cot for now but I was thinking for in the future. I can't imagine her being ready to sleep in a 'normal' bed in 4 months time though! Shock. She sleeps in a cot bed at home and throughout each night she does 360 degree spins continually all night around it and ends up in different corners etc Grin. And that's with a sleeping bag on!

I agree with normal bed from 18-24 months depending on how adventurous they are and whether you leave them alone upstairs much. One of mine was shinning out of his cot by about 15 months so he slept in a bed with his sister after that. I do remember being concerned about our rather treacherous stairs and sleepy toddlers shuffling around in the night though ( we put up noisy barriers! ).

Ah, no chance of that for DD for ages - she is nowhere near to walking or climbing yet. I can't imagine putting her in a bed any time soon as surely she will just keep falling out of it and hurting herself? She bangs her head against the headboard a fair amount as it is and we still often have to help her find her Sleepytot bunny in the night when it's ended up at completely the opposite end of the cotbed.

@MeadowHay - at 14 months it may seem a way off yet. But really the babybjorn you can fit a rather long 3 year old in, so after than thye really would be ready to move into a bed when travelling. You can always have just the mattress on the floor still if needed.

Im sure by 2 years you will see your just 1 year old really changes.

I see aldi have a cot that folds up similar in size to the one above atm and a bargain. as it folds more square then long its easier to carry
