Last minute uniform panic

If your uniform list said 'black pumps or trainers' would you assume that meant the trainers had to be black?
I've not read it that way (ie I have just bought a normal pair of trainers- not black) but now panicking!
School in a new area so I don't have anyone to ask who already goes there...

Yes I would say trainers need to be black too

AppleKatie · 01/09/2019 08:50

Yes black trainers I’m afraid.

PullingMySocksUp · 01/09/2019 08:51

What age is it for?
It might mean gym pumps or trainers. Ie not black.
How fussy is the rest of the list?
Any way of finding another parent?

I'd say black trainers too. Although if it's anything like our school where it says "black shoes no trainers", everyone wears any colour of trainers.

PullingMySocksUp · 01/09/2019 08:52

And what school needs black trainers for pe? They’re hard to find.

DumpTrump · 01/09/2019 08:54

Our uniform list says the same for PE kit. They are fine with any colour trainers.

drspouse · 01/09/2019 08:57

Our DD's school says that but they wear any colour trainers.

Lindy2 · 01/09/2019 09:03

I'd say it means black.
What age is your son though?
Starting Primary school - I'd stick with what you have. At 4 or 5 years old they are unlikely to be very strict about it.
Starting Secondary - I'd probably go and get some black ones. Secondary schools can be a lot stricter about things like that.
Does the school have a parent Facebook parents group? Quite a lot fo and they can be a great way to get questions like this answered.

Livebythecoast · 01/09/2019 09:07

I would read it as black trainers.
Depending on your DC age, George, Asda do black trainers for £12.50

LIZS · 01/09/2019 09:07

Buy a pair of cheap black plimsolls then see for next pair.

StateOfMind · 01/09/2019 09:09

If it’s primary I wouldn’t worry. If it’s secondary, you need to get him some black trainers.

whensmynexthol1day · 01/09/2019 10:04

It's primary. May just ask the teacher on the first day then - seems inconclusive!
He needs a half size at the moment, but was reluctant to pay Clarke's prices for half sizes! He already has trainers so was hoping he could get away with those.
Thanks everyone

I would assume black yes, buy some cheap plimsoles from the supermarket?

Mine has his first day of school on Tuesday, I have misplaced all of his washed and ironed shirts...off to M&S we go for more!

Flowersonthewall · 01/09/2019 10:10

George at Asda have black pumps no half sizes but just get the next size up. £3

BuffaloCauliflower · 01/09/2019 10:11

Yes that means pumps or trainers that are black

drspouse · 01/09/2019 10:41

If you have trainers don't bother getting any daps, they are so bad for their feet anyway.

cookiechomper · 01/09/2019 12:13

I'm not sure. In my son's school they only wear pumps till about year 3 and then they allow them to wear trainers, any colour. I'm not sure why it matters. I'd just use them and if anyone says anything, keep those for home and buy a cheap black pair to keep in school.
