If you have a tiny child who is nearly completely potty trained how do you toilet them in public?

For the last week dd aged 2.2 has been doing brilliantly and not giving me any problems at all with her progress. She tells me she wants a wee.
She sits on her potty and excitedly tells me "I did a weewee" etc
Yesterday whilst out and about in the car she did one in the carseat just as she woke up from a nap. She got quite upset and took lots of reassuring that it was o.k.
I feel keen not to confuse her by putting pull ups on her because I figured if she is having about 30 to 45 minutes in between each pee (at least) then a twenty minute drive is o.k.
I take the potty but wonder how I progress from there?
She is a tiny little girl...only 21 pounds what do I do about huge horrible public toilets or do I just have to carry a potty about?

woohoo!

She's a little star

Thankyou.
I am very suprised how well she is doing.
I'm wondering though.....should I be stopping all the prompts to allow her to ask for it herself? At the moment I am just saying every time I remember "don't forget if you need a we-wee...." etc

Keep reminding casually, until she can put herself on a potty or toilet without any assistance, then she will be able to decide when she goes.
Having said that, she's amazing!

I think she'll be about 5 befor I stop lifting her up to the loo. Yesterday I bought her a step and a funky padded seat. She tries her hardest to get up but is still way too tiny.
people must find me so boring....what am I talking about this for?

Perhaps she can still use the potty by herself on occasion when you can't get off the phone to help her for example, or when the loo is in use by someone else! There's no reason why she can't continue to use it as well as the loo, it's just really helpful that she can use loos too when needed. She is still young!

It can be a bit tricky when they can't really use the 'facilities' by themselves.
It's good that she doesn't mind the 'big' toilet - my ds just wasn't having any of it when he was that age. He would only sit on his potty seat thingy and we had to take a potty out with us in a polybag - plus a couple of pairs of trousers just in case.
Now he is 33 months (or something) and he has a step to do standing up pee in the loo and a small potty for poops - which means he only needs his bum wiped and can do everything else himself, but I don't see how he could reliably clamber onto the loo by himself, so I can see how a little girl would have probs.
I have seen a toilet seat step combo thing on Ebay before, which has handles for support when they are on the loo, I wonder if that would help as a short-term measure? Anyone tried?
An old towel folded works pretty well in the pram and on the carseat and is a less expensive option than the pampers mat thing.
It won't be long before you don't really think about it at all and she will tell you when she wants to go.
I was a bit weird about letting my ds pee outside, but now it's quite the norm, nobody bats an eyelid and what else are you supposed to do anyway?

I second the gutter. If it's a poo, I have learned it is possible for a small child to poo directly into a nappy bag.

Have just seen this and as I have two Small Children I can recommend the following technique:

I sit on the public toilet with my arse at the back of the seat and my legs apart - and sit Small Child in the gap between my legs. They can sit quite comfortably between my legs without being supported and pee or poo in the toilet.

For carseat or pushchair seat I used a plastic carrier bag with a folded towel on top. Worked well for us.
