Hipp Organic milk

So we decided to transfer DD2 who's 7 weeks from Aptamil stage 1 on to Hipp Organic. We done this due to colicky, windy issues and straining to poo! So we started this exactly 24hours ago so have had a good few bottles since, just wondered if anyone who made the change when did you notice a difference. I hate seeing her in discomfort. Thanks.

Oh and not to drip feed since DD has been on it she's been drinking more regularly where as before she could go longer periods!

Sorry I can't help from a change of milk point of view but my DS was on this pretty much since birth (premie so on a sugar type solution to start with) we had no problems great poo 💩 so much so HV / midwife thought he was breastfeeding - no issues with colic etc I can't rate it highly enough. Have you also looked at your bottles? Some of those can make a difference - we used Dr Browns- brilliant. Good luck

Yup I did exactly the same. My baby was on aptamil. He was sick. Constipated and even smelled strange. Since he went on to hipp hes been perfect. No more sick. Smells lovely and poops every 1 to 2 days. Best decision I ever made was changing to hipp. I find it works really well for my son.

We swapped one of our foster babies (our first one) to Hipp because he was constipated on the milk they sent with him. It was so much better. This was 19 years ago and our local Sainsbury’s got it in especially for us. He’s a 6”2 belter of a young man now (and is ours 😍).

@mommybear1 I've heard good reviews to that's why we decided to go to hipp, especially as it's meant to be gentle on the tummy. I just hope DD takes to it well and soon. I hate seeing her in discomfort. We use the dr browns bottles, and haven't used any others to compare with this time round. But thanks for the input of it being a good formula :)

@BabEmama aw your poor guy it's horrible seeing them struggle to go to the loo isn't it. She tends to go daily but it's a real struggle for her to go, just want to help her out if we can. She's begun crying after her feeds recently and is worse in the evening and early mornings! So think she has a bit of colic to. Mind you who knows 🤷‍♀️ as even drs struggle to diagnose what's wrong with them. How long did the formula take to show positive effects?

@Shockers that's good to know it's been good and recommended for a long time! I know they don't remember these times but as a parent/even a foster parent it proves we do, and we only want what's best for them.

I did a straight swap. Rather than gradually fazing out the aptamil. And I noticed the results literally the next day. He was even a bit better later on day 1. So basically almost instant. He just became a different baby. On aptamil, Sometimes he was going 5 days with no poo. So he was in constant pain. Straining then crying. And when he did poo it looked like pebbly clay. Was horrible to watch him suffer. But, like u, I did some research and thought hipp was defo the best way to go. And we haven't looked back since. My friends baby was fine on aptamil, but I have read online that a lot of babies just don't get along with it. I'd suggest its defo worth giving it a try.

Is his poo soft when it comes out or hard? If it is soft then the straining is probably due to infant dyschezia and will pass in time. This isn't a medical condition but a developmental stage - baby has realised that they need to push to poo, but not that they need to relax at the same time, so they strain and strain with no results. It's not pain that they are crying from but effort. It doesn't hurt then but it does take a few weeks for them to get the hang of it! I found doing something relaxing helped DS2 with this. Either a dummy or rocking him, also holding his legs in a squat position to encourage him to relax.

Her sorry, not his!

mommybear1 · 29/08/2019 19:18

Hopefully she will settle soon the only other thing I did was the old baby yoga focused on wind exercises particularly cycling the legs 😂it's a classic move!

Squeakybubbles26 · 29/08/2019 20:55

@BertieBotts her poos are soft. Ah that does make sense, I understand she's still developing etc just want to help if we can. Well hopefully we'll see improvements by the end of the tub of formula. It's meant to be good stuff so surely should be nicer on the tummy.

@mommybear1 thanks il give that a try to help her.
