How to stop baby weeping through nappy at night?

Hoping someone has a brilliant tip. Dd2 4mo will only sleep on her tummy and if I put her on her back will just roll straight over onto her tummy. I’ve made my peace with the fact this is how she sleeps and try and make it as safe as possible but find it annoying as she regularly wees out the front of her nappy at night. I think it must be the angle and the wee must just go straight down the front and out of the nappy. Have tried all the main supermarket brands (pampers so expensive so not tried those) but doesn’t seem to make any difference. Has anyone found a clever way to stop this? I wouldn’t mind except it wakes her up and I have to change her and her sheets. Happens most nights. Thinking I need to invent a nappy that is super long at the front covering their whole tummy.

Have you tried the size up or a + size? Anytime we've had this it's been time to change size, even if it has to be worn tight

Put it on back to front?

Bigger nappy.

Is she wearing a bodysuit? If that's getting snug for size it can press against a full nappy and cause leaks.

We had this with my tummy sleeper- after trying different sizes, different brands, even putting a pull up on over the top of nappy, using inserts... the ONLY thing that worked was to change nappy when we went to bed.

The first few nights he did wake and have to be resettled, but by about night 4, he just allowed us to get on with it and slept through the whole thing. Even though he had to be firstly rolled over in order to do it.

Lights were kept off and minimal chat. We also left it to the second before we were about to get into bed, so house was quiet immediately afterwards.

Out of all the brands we found pampers baby dry to be the best.

Hope this helps a bit, I know how frustrating it is..

Thanks for the ideas! Good idea trying a bigger size. Didn’t think of that as her weight is well within the range in the packet but def worth a try. Yes she’s in bodysuits but it does happen in looser romper style things too. Not thought about back to front but worth a shot I guess. Will try a size up tomorrow and see if that works. Thank you!

Another one for bigger nappy!

Muddytoes1 · 27/08/2019 21:50

Thanks winesolveseverything, she does have a dry nappy before bed. Might try a pack of pampers. If I just used them at night night not be too expensive. Was going to look at getting some reusables but not sure if they will be as good.

I used to put a diaper one size up ON THE OUTSIDE of her normal diaper, and would position it so that the front went up higher than it typically would. I found this type of double-diapering pretty accident-proof, and didn’t require a night-time wake-up. Some joyful mornings, the outer layer was even dry and I could recycle it the next night! Oh, the little things that can make my day... 😂

AlwaysColdHands · 27/08/2019 21:54

Yup, I have the same problem with DD exactly the same age! Size 3 nappy, on top of size 2. Comes up a little higher on the front & doesn’t seem to impede her movement at all 👍🏻

summertime06 · 27/08/2019 21:56

Agree about trying the next size up. I found ASDA and Lidl to be the best nappies. Happened to buy a pack in Sainsbury's a few weeks ago as I was running out and happened to be in there and they leaked every night! Now just using them up during the day, but definitely won't be using them overnight again.

Timeless19 · 27/08/2019 21:58

You could get a reuseable wrap to use outside a nappy to contain the leak, rather than waste two nappies.

Tots bots Peenut wrap or something similar would probably do the job.

I use reuseable nappies and never have overnight leaks with a tummy sleeper.

Muddytoes1 · 27/08/2019 22:21

Thanks so much for all the tips. Will have a go at doubling up if size up doesn’t do it and want to get on the reusables anyway so hopefully that will help too.

Need to go up a size and buy pampers for just night times (baby dry ones); You won't regret it!
