11 mo climber

Help please! My 11mo ds is a climber and can now climb out of his high chair. How do i do anything? Like preparing meals? If he’s on the floor he’s under my feet crying or trying to climb into everything in the kitchen. He climbs out of his high chair even if provided with plentiful snacks. He’s not interested in tv so won’t even sit for 5 mins with Cbeebies. It’s driving me mad. I’m not expecting miracles, but would just like to be able to get the lunch safely!

Does your highchair not have straps? If not, might be worth getting one that does so that he can't climb out. Other than that, I've got no advice I'm afraid other than to grow eyes in the back of your head! Good luck op!

What sort of high chair do you have? If it's something like the Ikea one, change the strap for a harness - you can get them from boots etc.

Large bowl of water on the floor. Maybe some washing up liquid in. Wooden spoons, Tupperware's etc. Kept mine entertained if somewhat messily for hours.

I also had a bar I'd attach them on one side while I was cooking on the other. They'd do their bit. Turning mixer on or adding things or whatever. Everything took 10x as long though.

Sling on your back whilst you make lunch? Treasure chest of interesting things- silk scarf, pine cone, wooden spoon, rattle, sponge etc etc.

The high chair has straps but he can escape from them. Sometimes he likes to empty the Tupperware cupboard in the kitchen, but never when I need to him to be occupied sadly. I could try a bowl of water on the floor, but I worry I’d just end up with a slippery floor and a slippery toddler right under my feet where I’m trying to prepare the lunch!

Tighten the straps or buy a harness so he can't get out. At 11 months mine still went in a travel cot/playpen so I could get things done safely without him under my feet.

When does he have his nap? I make our lunch while my DS is napping and leave it in the fridge.
