From us a bank account to put his money in. He now has enough to buy a car when he passes his test.

Friends and family bought them so much we never needed to.

Dd, a trike.

DS? Can't remember!

BizzzzyBee · 24/08/2019 22:21

Mine got all sorts and spent the day dragging a tatty old teddy around on the dog’s lead. They really don’t care at that age! He does enjoy his ball pit I suppose, but be warned - you will be picking up balls every day for the rest of your life.

I bought my DS this trike, which we've used cosntantly! He adores it :

And I added money to his bank account. Some people got OTT, but honestly, I'd save the pennies for a birthday that they'll remember. Flowers

*constantly. Haha.

Can't remember exactly but it was less and less with each child. (The last child got some of the older ones old toys wrapped up and given to him from the kids - he loved them as they were 'new' to him...they had been away in the loft....they liked giving a gift....win win) A helium balloon goes down well at this age and money in savings. Friends and family are often incredibly generous at 1st birthday so you can take stock after the event. But as others have said a smart trike, ride on toys, garden toys - small slide, climbing frame, water tray, 2 and 3 piece jigsaws, Happy Land or Little People toys, wooden trainset. There is a massive change from a non walking 1 year old to a running toddler who they will be soon so try to think what they will need. Also an annual pass to a local venue is great.

They really don’t need anything at that age and agree other people just buy so much anyways. Having said that, rather than a gift as kids have so much and if they’re at nursery full time there’s really only weekends they get to play with their toys, in between kids parties, family/house stuff and any activities they may do, we bought a season ticket for the zoo. DS was free until aged 2 and we just went as and when throughout the year if we didn’t have anything on.

It’s tough though as we all feel like there should be presents, but it is unnecessary at this age for “stuff”. Thinking on we’d put aside clothes from the sales on the next size up to unwrap. We unwrapped them as he had no interest 😂

One of those 3 in 1 micro scooters from her grandparents, some books and a little mini watering can do she can copy her dad watering the pots from us, a bubble machine from her uncle and some cars and a play mat with the road markings on from her auntie.

I got DD a ball, some decorative bits for her bedroom and some books.

My parents got the big exciting gift which was a skuttlebug (which are as cheap as chips!)

I also had a hunch that by Christmas (18m) and her 2nd birthday there would be obvious things to buy which turned out to be right (scooter, train set, slide, tea set etc.) whereas at 1 DD didn't seem quite old enough for a lot of the more interesting toys.

Rosebud1302 · 25/08/2019 08:27

We asked family for money for his savings and his main present was a smart trike that will grow with him. He got a few little token toys but mainly money x

Lazypuppy · 25/08/2019 08:42

Nothing. I knew everyone else was buying loads.

We didn't even do a cake, just a family meal out

Here are some suggestions:
and

There are also separate videos for each of those toys, if you want to know why they are great toys for toddlers that age.

Books are also always a good gift!
