Another leaking nappies thread - but different[smile]

Almost 10 month old DD is in size 5 Pampers Baby Dry nappies. All good (she definitely needs this size nappy to fit around her middle and her chunky thighs) - unless she sleeps on her back either during day time naps in the cot or during the night. She wakes up soaked, like the nappy has leaked up the top at the back of it, as the nappy otherwise wouldn't be anywhere near sopping wet - cue full change of clothes/night clothes and bed linen. But shes fine if she sleeps on her belly. I've tried her in pyjamas with vest/with no vest/babygro with & without a vest on, and of course her normal clothes for daytime naps but nothing is fixing the problem. Any suggestions please? Obviously uncomfortable for her (she's very restless when she's wet) and its a laundry nightmare too... Thanks.

Two thoughts:

Size 5 seems big for a 10 month old. I'd wonder if they're gaping at the top letting the wee leak where the nappy isn't close fitting enough.

And do Pampers do 5+ nappies? (+ nappies are more absorbant so tend to be used at night)

My 2 year old is in 4+ nappies at night.

I had a similar problem but mine had leaks when sleeping on her front!

Someone suggested putting the nappy on back to front but it didn't work. What eventually worked was fastening the nappy tighter than I'd choose to. Don't get me wrong it's not hurting and I can get fingers underneath! I do that with a vest on.

Yes though it's a nightmare having to change clothes/ bedding when you want your baby to sleep!

If she definitely needs a size 5, I would try a different nappy brand or type. We love pampers premium protection for our babes but had multiple leaks with baby dry.

puttingitalloutandabout · 24/08/2019 21:44

I agree with @Champagne791 the premium protection ones are great! I had a few leaks with regular pampers but I've only ever had one leak in about 10 months of the premium protection ones!

My LB is 10 months and size 5 so know it is possible but we dont have leaks. We use every brand apart from Pampers because we used them alot when he was a newborn and had loads of leaks.

RedCowboyBoots · 24/08/2019 21:47

Pull it tighter or switch to a 4+

RedCowboyBoots · 24/08/2019 21:48

Or put a pull up on over the regular nappy.

momo01 · 24/08/2019 21:49

Would you consider using reusable? We use them, and they will last all night no problem, even though DD is a very heavy wetter. They fit more closely around the waist too, so won't come off when they wriggle around in bed.

dandeloin · 24/08/2019 21:49

she's a big baby, 22 or 23lbs, not sure of her exact weight at the moment, but she was 10lbs 6 when born so has always been on the larger side... I had her in the Pampers size 4 and 4+ but they were leaking too, so I thought they were too small for her, and they were much tighter (uncomfortably so) on her. I have the Premium Protection here too so I might try those on her tomorrow... in the meantime, I've just stocked up on loads of the Baby Dry seeing as they were on offer the other day, ooops!

My 16 month old is in size 5 nappies and has been since around 10 months x

I've never had a problem with pampers and pampers protection. Never had a leak nothing . The first time I tried Lidl nappies. She had leaks lol.

Erm basically what I'm saying is, make sure the nappy is pulled up but with a little room at the bottom so it isn't tight around her private parts... and that the corners and placed flat on her thighs (the little edges near the thighs roll them out) so everything is covered x

Try active fit overnight rather than baby dry And I agree the size sounds big- my 30lb 2 year old is in a size 5 and we don’t have issues with leaks. But I’d use up what you’ve got during the day when you’re changing more frequently and try active fit in 4 or 4+ overnight.
