Teething - Is this going to get worse?

LO (7 months) cut his first tooth last week, followed shortly by the matching one. Bottom centre. Both feel sharp and can be seen below the gum, but nothing much to see above yet except the cut in his gums.

He's being an absolute champ, blob some teething gel on and give him something to chew, and he's fine. Is this suddenly going to get much more painful for him, as the teeth come out? Or are these particularly easy teeth in teething terms, and the others will be worse (I can feel the top middle and some very far back teeth very prominently through the gum as well)?

We've had months of hell with cmpa, severe reflux, and a 6 month feeding aversion we are only just now resolving. I wondered if I'm being naive in thinking all this pain has raised his tolerance levels, or whether there is much worse ahead! I know teething is horrific for many families, and wanted to prepare myself for it in a way I failed to do for his other problems.

As with everything it's different for all kids! Most seem to find molars worst I think? Although for DS his canines were absolute murder, much worse than any others! Buckets of calpol, nothing else helped.

I didn't know if there is loads of variation between kids - my few friends with babies or kids all describe it as horrific, but I'm unclear on how that will actually compare for me or LO compared to all he's been through already! Frankly, I have no idea how I've made it this far (no joke)! And very impressed with how happy and resilient LO is too...

My little boy had been awful and teething really does affect him but my god daughter has barely noticed her teeth appearing so it really does depend on the child

When it's bad, does it get worse as the tooth comes through? Is there a peak pain moment?

For us it's been when the tooth is on breaking point just under the surface , once it's popped out then it gets a little better

Depends on the child! My DC1 was very moany and grumpy with his first two teeth, but slept absolutely fine. His next ones just appeared as if from nowhere. The only other bad ones he had was the first molar (mood was fine but restless nights), and the canines (sleep was fine but horrible mood). The others didn't seem to bother him!

DC2 has been teething for a good couple of weeks, really grumpy in the day and sleepless nights. No teeth yet!

Generally with each of my daughters teeth she's had an 'off day' and then the day after I've noticed a tooth about to come through. But after that off day she's always been fine. She's 15m now with her 8 front teeth and 4 molars. The molars were tough but mainly at night. She would wake up crying and would grab hold my my neck really tight whilst crying in pain. I felt so awful for her! But she always went back off to sleep well. The 4 molars took about 4 weeks to come in. And she had about 4 rough nights (spaced out over the 4 weeks)... I'm not looking forward to the next ones but she's a tough cookie ♥️
