Hi i am expecting and just wondering if anyone has any advice. my little boy has only just turned one and hasn't mastered walking yet. He is also really big for his age so i think this is what is holding him back. He weighs 24lb and is 80 cm tall. im worried if he doesnt start walking soon im going to be really struggling to be able to pick him up in a few months time. Also im just thinking about the idea of getting a double buggy as he will be about 20months old when his little sibling is here. is it worth getting?

thanks

With that gap I would get a double buggy, even when he's walking he will still need to go in the buggy for some time to come to go any distance.

My gap is 2yrs 9 months an I initially got a double buggy because my older one still goes in a buggy sometimes, but I didn't actually use it in the end an resold it on for the same price I paid for it (I got it second hand). I find with my bigger gap a single buggy and sling combination works best. I would also definitely get a sling too, the more options the better. X

Also it's completely normal that he's not walking yet at only just turned one. After 18 months old if he's still not on the move I would mention it to your HV just to check. Even then chances are it's just normal variation X

Don't worry about him not walking plenty of time for that. My son was 1 a few weeks ago and just before his birthday he was 81cm and 27.5lbs so I can relate to the picking up can't imagine picking my son up when pregnant. I was told bigger babies take longer to walk. No idea of this is true though.

I was in this position last year. Yes definitely get a double buggy, even if he gets up tomorrow and runs across your front room you will still need it if your going out for the day or control your toddler when your feeding baba out and about.

Some things worth thinking about is weaning lo2 and highchair/booster for lo1 and sleeping arrangements if they will be sharing a bedroom.

I would also get him a doll and get him playing with it. It will help with the transition. Also trying to play a “go get it” game, asking him to bring you a ball or a car. It will become a lifesaver when you have your little assistant grabbing baby wipes and Nappies when your changing baby.

You will muddle through will the lifting and bending as you get bigger. I had really horrible girdle/hip pain from the constant getting up from the floor but the midwife was brilliant about it.

There are 18 months between my two so very similar and yes definitely get the double. My daughter loves to walk but she does get tired and she also still has a nap so the night is handy for that if we are out and about all day. Currently the newborn hates the pushchair exactly as my daughter did so I tend to sling him and use the single for my daughter at the moment, but in a couple of months I’m sure the double will come into its own.

Def get a double buggy.

20 months is so young, and if he isnt walking yet, there is no way, he will be a confident walker and got get tired
