Aptamil Sensavia - what actually is it?

Have been topping up bf baby with one aptamil formula bottle in evenings but unlike my older DC this doesn’t seem to agree with her and she usually pukes it back up about an hour afterwards.

In the supermarket I noticed Aptamil Sensavia but it seems very new and google doesn’t have the answer. It’s not clear even on the aptamil website what it’s actually aimed at. The name suggests sensitive stomachs which is why I’m interested. The apta website says it’s “ based on partially hydrolysed milk proteins. This means the formulations contain milk proteins that have been broken into smaller pieces.” but what does that mean??

Anyone tried it?

It means it's aimed at babies who have difficulty with the proteins in milk (CMPA). There is absolutely zero point in buying it unless you go completely dairy yourself.

Have you suspected a dairy allergy at all with DD? This article from Kellymon has sone really useful information, including possible signs.

Haven’t considered a dairy allergy but will look at that article.

Is it actually dairy free though?
I’ve gone dairy free for suspected cmpa and would quite like to be able to give the occasional bottle of formula.

Is it actually dairy free though? unfortunately no. It is made from cow’s milk but the proteins have been broken down more than regular formula which some babies with CMPA will cope with and others won’t.

I’m non-ige and used to be able to drink a little milk as a child t had the proteins broken down a bit more. It was sterilised milk.

Thanks. I have managed to find a dairy free formula in boots so we can still give the occasional bottle of formula.

@hormonesorDHbeingadick

Can you advise what dairy free formula you found in boots as I am also cutting out dairy whilst breastfeeding but would like to give some formula as I need a break for my sanity!

www.boots.com/sma-wysoy-soya-formula-800g-from-birth-10265946

It’s soya based and I know many cmpa babies also have issues with soya so take care. My older DD who has cmpa has never had an issue with soya.

mrsed1987 · 23/08/2019 21:50

Sounds like youd be better off trying reflux milk. Ive just put my lo on sma reflux and he is 100x better with his sickness

JiltedJohnsJulie · 24/08/2019 10:20

I’m in the half of people with CMPA that do react to Soya unfortunately.

Like Hormones says, if you suspect a dairy allergy (CMPA) be really careful introducing a Soya milk. Most HCPs don’t recommend doing this and baby could be worse not better.

hormonesorDHbeingadick · 24/08/2019 10:26

Well DD vomited up her soya bottle last night but it’s not unusual for her to vomit at this time.

JiltedJohnsJulie · 24/08/2019 10:29

Does she really need the formula Hormones? If you think she needs “topping up” could you fit in an extra feed or give her a bottle of EBM?

hormonesorDHbeingadick · 24/08/2019 10:47

No she doesn’t need it but I needed a bit more sleep!

I’ve tried expressing this morning and I got 1 oz, I only tried one boob and kellymom website tells me that is about average. I think she needs about 5oz per feed so that lots of expressing I need to fit in.
