Baby bottles in a dishwasher - good enough as a steriliser?

Does anybody consider dishwashered baby bottles to be sterilised adequately, or does everybody use a proper steriliser? I know that preserving jars which have been in the dishwasher can count as sterile enough but I don't know if that would also go for baby bottles... thanks!

yep - no-one in the US ever uses a steriliser.
will find thread with RTKangamummy's advice from her NICU consultant...

Yes it will be fine.
I know our dishwasher has a bottle setting (it basically washes at 65 rather than 55).

I stupidly bought a sterilser last year when ds was born and packed in using it when he was 3 months cos I realised the dishwasher was far easier.

Thanks so much, Mrsbadger! That was a really useful thread... though I'm really miffed to hear that the advice has changed and you now shouldn't make up a batch of bottles in one go. The thought of having to make up each feed as and when you need it is hideous...

Yes, IMHO

Put the water in the bottles and reheat the water, then make up the feed with the reheated water.

I'm pretty sure the dishwasher would be enough - but I didn't want to be putting the dishwasher on every day when it wasn't full so bought a steriliser for reassurance when the bottles were handwashed

yep.
