Today was horrific. So my 9 day old prem (35 weeks born) baby is completely breastfed. I went into the kitchen to do some chores and my other children told me baby had milk In her nose I rushed in and picked her up she had milk In her nose wasn't breathing eyes wide and stiff and changed colour.
I sucked milk from her nose and eventually she breathed again and went to sleep. Went to hospital in ambulance and they checked her over and said sounds like reflux and have prescribed meds. I can't cope with it if all happened so quick and i can't remember a lot of it but I'm worried as could get long term brain damage now. I feel so bad and sad. What are the chances this will affect her long term. Has this happened to anyone else and still everything was ok?
I'm worried i shook her slightly in a panic to get her ok again
I just keep kissing her feeling so sad

That must have been so scary. I don’t have any real advice but if the hospital have let you home they must have been happy that she is ok Flowers

Oh how terrifying! I'm sure she's ok, you sounded like you acted quickly and did the right thing Flowers

I'm not surprised you're scared by that. Can you speak to your hv about it and seek reassurance that way? It's normal to be twitchy with a new baby let alone a prem baby xxx

How frightening. Try not to panic. Newborn babies are much tougher than we think. I'm sure she'll be absolutely fine.

(If it's any consolation I dropped my week old on her head. I was desperately worried. She's now 19 and couldn't be healthier. )

How scary for you. No wonder you're worried. Amazing that you knew what to do to save her.
Everything is ok now. Well done!

This is awful, I can really sympathise my baby choked on mucus at 3 days old and I was in bits - we went to hospital and all tests came back ok. From what I remember they do extensive tests and I don’t think they would have let you come home if there was any issues with baby. I couldn’t sleep properly for days after the incident and kept checking she was ok. When I spoke to midwives/HV about it this sounded like it was possibly more common than I for one realised. I have just bought a baby movement monitor that I am going to start using now - I’m not saying they are for everyone but I am giving it a try to see how it goes.

How are you feeling this morning? X

When dc 2 was a day old we came home from hospital, my mum was holding him and panicked as he was chocking or something, she practically threw him at me. I held him upright, whatever it was cleared and he was fine. Hes nearly 6 now, currently busy playing with his brother. Absolutely fine.
