Good books for first time parents

I'm currently 17w and am painfully aware that I'm approaching the halfway point of pregnancy - which is a bit terrifying. I really have no clue about what's coming in terms of taking care of a baby. My brother was born when I was 13 and I was pretty hands on but so much has changed in the last 20 years. We don't really have much to do with babies - my dsil has my niece who's about 2 now, but we didn't see that much of them when she was a baby.

What are your top recommendations for books for first time parents? What did you find unhelpful?

I liked Dr Ellie Cannon's book. I had about three books and TBH I think they were bad for me - I was constantly checking and comparing DS's development against what they said baby should be doing at X weeks.

But the Cannon book was nicely written and pretty reassuring.

Ooh, and there was one for men, new fathers, which I bought my husband but he didn't read. I did though and found it really helpful to be able to understand how the Dad is feeling. It was really interesting.
