Leaking nappies - Recommendations please!

Leaking nappies are driving me crazy! I've tried Aldi size 2 and 3 which give my little boy a sore bum and leak about 3/4 times a day.
I then tried Pampers premium protection in size 2, these seemed to be great for a couple of weeks but now back to leaking 3/4 times a day. I have bought and tried the Pampers baby dry size 3 in case it was the fit of the nappy but these are far too big.

Can anyone recommend any other brands as it's driving me crazy having to change his clothes constantly?! Confused

I really like morrisons ultra dry active. They have never leaked, even overnight and she never has a sore bum with them. The Aldi ones were sometimes OK with my LO but they weren't a great fit and would leak at times and left her a bit red. I also quite like lidl nappies.

lovehasadiameter · 12/08/2019 06:30

I also found pampers to be huge compared to all the other brands I tried

ADTB · 12/08/2019 06:59

Brill thank you! I will definitely give them both a try. I can't bear to keep spending so much money on the 'best brand' and be getting through so many of them because of leaks Shock

Also a fan of morrisons nutmeg!

I would have said Tesco, but they recently changed thems and now they’re awful. I’m struggling too.

ADTB · 12/08/2019 07:43

Thank you!

Yeah I've seen a few threads where people are saying Tesco aren't as good as they used to be. Same with Aldi.

You could research and read reviews all day couldn't you ConfusedConfused

I'm definitely going to give Morrison's & Lidl a try. I've seen a product testing thread on MN about Lidl nappies and all the Mums that have commented recommend them!

I switched from Aldi to Lidl and their nappies are amazing! No leaks all night x

EdtheBear · 12/08/2019 08:00

Daft question are you making sure the frilly bits are out?

ADTB · 12/08/2019 08:13

Yes I'm always super careful with pulling the frills out now as I never knew this for the first couple of weeks (first time Mum)Grin
And I always make sure his tinkle is pointing downwards.

It's at the point where I have to change him every time he has a feed in the night (3-4 times) which makes him think it's then play time

Are you sure you're putting them tight enough on the waist? Only cause I definitely wasn't at first (also FTM) so the Aldi ones were leaking for me. Once I realised that the Aldi ones are great for us.

saywhatwhatnow · 12/08/2019 08:21

Asda and Lidl are both great for my DS. No leaks ever. How often do you change? Not I dig but if you've got a big drinker/wee-er you might need to do it more often than recommended.

JC12345 · 12/08/2019 08:23

We've always used boots nappies and very rarely have any leaks. Also get lots of points with boots card too which is useful.

elpth · 12/08/2019 08:31

We had so many issues with leaks that we changed to reusable nappies. They were SO much better. If you have a local reusables scheme you might be able to borrow some to try or buy them at a subsidised price? We did more washing due to leaks before we switched than washing of nappies afterwards! Plus saved tonnes of money.

ADTB · 12/08/2019 08:32

I'm pretty sure I'm putting them on tight enough. The tabs are fully overlapped on the waistband and I check that I can only fit two fingers between him and the nappy.

He is a big drinker for sure. He has 6oz every 2.5 hours in the day and around 4/5oz during the night (every 3-4 hours). He is 11 weeks old and already weighs just over a stone Shock

In the day I change him at least every 2 hours regardless of any leaks and if he has poo'd then obviously I will change him straight away.

It's just odd because for a few weeks, the Pampers premium protection and baby dry were keeping him dry/leak free for 10 hours easily during the night but the last week or so, the leaking is every time he wakes for a feed.

Just read my reply back, I don't mean that I leave him in wet clothes. I meant that even when he hasn't leaked, I change him 2 hourly. If he has leaked then obviously I change him as soon as I notice Blush

If he's only 11 weeks old are you sure you are not just putting the wrong size nappies on him? Size 3 seems very big indeed for an 11 week old. Maybe try a smaller size and see if the leaking stops?

yourestandingonmyneck · 12/08/2019 08:42

Also, I fin pull ups are good for getting a good fit but he won't be ready for them for a while yet I don't think.

ADTB · 12/08/2019 08:53

I've been using Size 2 from the different brands. But I tried a pack of size 3 in case it was because size 2 were too small - the size 3 are definitely far too big even though they state he is in the right weight range.
Ah yes, it will be so much easier when he fits in pull ups!

Where nappies have + after the size number it's not a larger size, it's higher absorbency so trying those might help?

ADTB · 12/08/2019 09:42

@marmiteandmarmalade Ah fab will keep an eye out for that as didn't know! Thank you Smile

My little one always had leaks when he first moves in to the next size up, even tho he is in the weight bracket! We used pampers and after a few days we get no leaks again

TheBestSpoon · 12/08/2019 16:43

If he's a chunky monkey, might be worth trying Sainsbury's. They have an elastic bit at the back and were the only ones that worked for my rather portly DS - he's also a big fan of his milk!

ADTB · 12/08/2019 18:11

Thank you ladies!

@TheBestSpoon ah thank you, that's worth knowing. I might give them a try. He is definitely a little chunk. Over a stone at 11 weeks old and he's really long too so the elastic back will probably really help! Smile

OP posts:
TheBestSpoon · 12/08/2019 19:06

Fingers crossed they might work then - DS was a stone at 12 weeks, so similarly chubby!

Ermmmmidunno · 14/08/2019 00:34

We tried the Aldi & Lidl ones but best ones we’ve had so far is the Sainsbury’s own brand ones.

I still have to change DD in the night though as she pees like a horse. In the day it’s fine though.
