Clark’s shoe sizing?

Hi,

I have a 20 month old boy, with a Clark’s shoe size of 9.... I’ve been buying shoes in the sales and wondering how Next sizing compares to Clark’s? I find it really hard to tell just by feeling the toes.

Seems like his feet grow ridiculously fast, he needs a new size every 2 months, is this normal? So expensive 💆‍♀️

He'll probably be an 8 elsewhere

Next come up big to be honest and are really hard on feet. Get him measured in Clark's and then go to the Clark's or Start Rite on line outlet. You can get shoes for £12. 9 is big for 20 months! I have a 4 year old in size 11 and that's pretty big xx

Start rite are quite different in sizing to Clarks so you'd need them measured separately. But agree that's very big, my 6 and a half year old is a 10 😆

Also Clarks measure the width too. My DS aged 4 measures a 9.5 D, which is very narrow, so much so they only start from an E. We always get their free insoles to ensure a good fit.

I am a bit fussy when it comes to shoes and would never buy them from Next etc, but only from places where they are trained to measure as their feet are still developing and moulding until ages 8, I think.

Clarkes are rubbish at fitting shoes, they’ll measure and then try to fit their feet into what they have in stock. They are also rubbish quality. If you have an independent shoe shop near you then look there. My kids wore Geox, hush puppies etc.

I found Next shoes were fine in the size that my DD was measured in Clark’s. What width is he though? My DD is an F which is the standard width so I was told it’s ok to buy her size at other shops but if their feet are wider or narrower than I’m not so sure.
My DD is just over 2 and probably goes up in shoe size every 3 months

I agree with Clark's being rubbish for fitting and just selling you anything although some of the shoes are good, John Lewis is always a good bet as they won't let them leave in a pair that don't fit plus they stock Clark's, start rite, geox, kickers and more. Handy for dd2 who has really wide feet but narrow heels so a good range is important. Agree with fitting hard shoes for toddlers but trainers etc from next will be ok.

I've often heard Clarks fitting competence rubbished on here, but my local one has always been excellent. Try a few different places, it never hurts to get a second opinion on the fit.

For shoes that they will be wearing a lot I think that it's important to get them fitted properly. I think for sandals or summer runarounds it's ok to get a cheaper self fitted pair.

Start Rite tend to come up a little larger than Clarks but they have a measure on line tool
