comfort teddy at 23 months

My DS is 23 months, and has been a good sleeper until recently, he usually goes down at 7pm and would drop straight off with no comforter .. the last couple of weeks he has been struggling to do that. So last night, I grabbed one of his favourite bunny teddys, and popped it in his cot with him, he took it straight off me snuggled it and said ' ahhhhh'and was asleep within 2 minutes. This morning when he woke at 7am, I got him up and he was clutching onto his Bunny. I don't want him to become dependent on it , so late on,.

Do you think this is ok ? Wonder why it has helped him settle? Do any of your DC's have comfort teddies/blankets?, I never ever had one!

Ds1 had a comfort teddy, probably starting from around that age - he still has it and it's very precious to him but he doesn't need it to sleep (aged 12).

Ds2 likes to sleep with teddies but any teddy will do and he's not particularly attached to one (although he has a couple of favourites) so it depends on the child.

Going by family trauma when a precious toy got lost, you might want to get a spare or two (and then rotate them so they get an equal amount of wear and can "pass" for the original). I wasn't organised enough for that but - touch wood! - we never had to go through the lost toy nightmare.

My DS is 5 and had his since day1, no way would be be without that stinking elephant. But, I can't see any harm at all.

Can't imagine why this would ever be a problem! I slept with a favourite toy until I was about 12 years old and I've turned out OK :)

Currently going through a marriage break up and I have no shame in saying I've been taking my Teddy to bed to cuddle.

The only problem with being ‘dependent’ on it is you’re stuck if it goes missing - so just make sure you don’t lose it. Otherwise, why can’t he have a little comforter - that’s what teddies are made for aren’t they?
