Dc1 is about to start school, so dc2 and I will have more time to do things, just the two of us. Just wondering what classes are good for this age.

Dc1 and I loved Baby Sensory, but obviously this isn't for toddler. There are no toddler sense classes near us.

Messy Monkeys

I’d Gymboree still going? That was good.

Maybe a music class?

Thanks, I've never heards of Messy Monkeys or Gymboree. Will have a look.

We did a music class when dc2 was smaller and it was great, but more of a performance by the teacher iyswim? DC didn't really get to do much. I wonder if something a bit more interactive might be more fun for DC.

'Music with Mummy'?

Or just go swimming together, & go to Toddler group?

SteveHadTheRightIdea · 08/08/2019 12:25

Thanks teen. Music with mummy was the class we tried! It was very good, but I wanted to find something a bit more interactive for DC.

We have two toddler groups we like going to, so this would be on one of the other days. Swimming together might be fun. I'm not keen on the swim lessons though, as they're always chaos and I don't think DC2 actually gets much out of them yet tbh. Dc1 is four and gets so much more out of it.

I have booked a preschool dance class! It's on a day we have nothing else, so it's perfect 👍.

I didn't do swimming lessons for DD until she could do them independently (ie not needing me in the water with her), also around aged 4.
But swimming together is fantastic for building up water confidence and is great for motor skills too (and tiring them out).
You need a 'woggle' not arm bands to get the position in the water right, and just do swirling around, kicking, jumping in, that kind of stuff.

DD also did 'toddler ballet'. She enjoyed it, though she was hopeless (didn't learn to skip until she was about 8). She had a friend who could do it all beautifully, and who still does dance classes now aged 14.

Download the hoop app. It shows what is on in your area by day, age group of the child and cost. There are also reviews. My toddler loves Tiny Tunes if that is available in your area which is all the nursery rhymes with different props for the kids, bubbles and balls. I wouldn't recommend Monkey Music as it was songs that they had written so we're well known plus our class was disorganised and took ages to get the props out and back again. The best groups I have found tho are run in local churches that often aren't on the apps or even the church websites and I only found out from word of mouth so maybe strike up a conversation with mums in the park.

Keep going. It did take me a good 6 months to find groups we enjoyed and bonded with other mums in the groups! Xx

At that age I went swimming with both my kids (started as babies and continued). With my daughter I additionally started a music group at 1,5 which was really nice and at that age the kids are able to join in - not with the singing, but with the dancing. They used percussion instruments as well.
With my son I went to a toddler play group in addition.

Aww we LOVED baby sensory, and I was gutted that they didn't run a Toddler sense group near us.. The WOW franchise group that run both of those have started a class called 'Reading Fairy' though, and they're launching in our area from the autumn term. Have a look and see if there's one near you! It involves songs, storytime, phonics... We're signed up. It sounds fun!

Thanks smart. We already do similar to what you did with yours, but I was looking for recommendations of something different to do in addition to the swimming we already do with dc1 and dc2 together, the two (sometimes three) toddler groups we go to in the week and something other than music class, which I did with both DCs (dc1 continued till about 20mo) and which we found good, but not as interactive for dcs as I would like. The teacher at our local one is wonderful and has the most amazing voice, so we all ended up just watching her and then shaking instruments around dry so often. We do this already for free at church, so it's not something I'm happy to pay for again, having done it with dc1 and again with dc2.

Someone suggested me taking dc2 to the pool, just the two of us, which we will do and which I think will be lovely. We always go with dc1 as well, so I think it will be nice to not have to divide my attention so much.

I have also booked a preschool dance class as I said a few posts ago Smile. Really looking forward to it GlitterballSmile.

Thanks again everyone for your help and suggestions Flowers.
