Toddler shoes

Went to mother care, bought some shoes. They were in sale and loads of pairs left. I've made them as loose as possible so they're almost falling off and they still rub. I know they don't fit my child, but I imagine they'd run on the vast majority of children. Do you think it is unreasonable to expect a refund. He has worn them mostly around house and in garden.

Also really struggling to find shoes. I don't really want to splash out on clarkes. Any ideas?

i don't think they will take them back because they have been worn. in terms of recommendations, these link are £27, or if you would prefer something cheaper, these are £8 (reduced from £10)

Where are they rubbing? Being too tight or too loose can rub. I find my DD's feet are too narrow for most standard fit shoes but recently got some from Asda. Clarks outlet is also good and I think you can order online to be fitted in-store too.

All toddlers have fat feet right? So they are digging in on the tops of his feet

Do you mean flat? Yes toddlers have flatter feet in general but still natural variation. Does seem an odd place to rub though so you could try taking them back.

ErrolTheDragon · 07/08/2019 20:55

Have you had your DSs feet properly measured? Toddler feet may generally be a bit chubby but there are a lot of different widths and shapes. I knew one child whose feet were really wedge shaped when they were a toddler.

It's worth getting him measured in a proper shoe shop, they might have some summer shoes on sale.

Yogurtcoveredricecake · 07/08/2019 20:58

You might be able to get an exchange if you ask nicely.

I get my toddler's feet measured and then buy Clarks in the sale or at the outlet. My local independent shoe shop has a loyalty scheme too which we use too. I've heard good things about Asda shoes too.

rubyroot · 07/08/2019 21:58

Yes he's had his feet measured. I just think these are really badly designed shoes as looking at them now (should have noticed more in the shop) they're just really narrow where the toes and top of the foot are. No amount of measuring would have prevented this His feet aren't massively fat, but toddlers have the extra pudge on the top of their feet which these shoes really don't account for.
I'm hoping they'll refund as gesture of goodwill.
I can't really afford clarks which is why I asked for alternative and there's no outlet nearby. Thanks for the tip re Asda

Maybe that's why there were so many left in the sale!

I guess if you're trying shoes in a shop without a fitter, it's important to get your DS to walk around in them, fully load bearing so you can see how they look under pressure IYSWIM.

rubyroot · 07/08/2019 22:13

I just find it really hard @ErrolTheDragon he's been walking 4 months and so I can hardly look at him and think. Oh, he's walking well in those! 😂 I've had a look at online reviews and 2 out of 3 mention sizing issues similar to mine so I'm going to ring customer services and see what they say. I'll just make sure the next shoe I get has plenty of room at top of foot. The first pair of shoes I bought him from sainsburys were a quick buy and so much better. Guess I got lucky there

Sorry but I always buy clarks for this exact reason. Could you buy clarks shoes in the sale so you are always a size ahead and have them in stock for cheap. So start in the next sale and buy the next size up, then keep doing that in every sale they have.
I think you would just have to keep trying them on or hoping for the best,I think the cheaper options don't tend to fit as well

ErrolTheDragon · 07/08/2019 22:19

I meant more how the foot and shoe squidge when he's standing.
If there's other reviews pointing out the same issue hopefully they'll refund - it does sound like they're 'not fit for purpose' - a handy phrase when you want a refund for a product which really doesn't work.

I find Bobux and Toms to be pretty good. They can cost around £15 if you pick them up in the sale.

Thank you for recommendations and links

Buy Clark's when they have their sale on! I always buy the next size up during their sales 👍

It's because Mothercare shoes are terrible! I buy Bobux for my 4 year old where possible. Lovely soft leather and barefoot soles.
