Getting rid of dummies

My little one is almost 22 months old and we feel it’s about time that her dummies went, especially since she seems to have become more and more dependent on them the past couple of months, asking for them when she didn’t before and upset if she doesn’t get one. She doesn’t even need it half the time. I’ve tried saying about a dummy fairy or other younger babies she knows having them instead, but she doesn’t seem to understand. Any tips please??!!

I would make them just for naps/bedtime first.

I need help with this too!! My 27 month old has got more dependent on dummies than she was, and screams the place down if she doesn't get one when asked. I try and hold out as long as possible but my stress levels are through the roof and it's nearly impossible dealing with her when she's like that and the other kids!! I'm ashamed to say that i often give in and give it to her!!
The thing is though, if she was sucking her thumb then it wouldn't be so frowned upon by society - and a thumb is just as bad for the teeth as a dummy! (Rant over! Ha ha)

We've started restricting 18mo's dummy to sleep/car and if she's unwell. We'll gradually try to reduce over time.
She does still ask for it a lot but can be distracted eventually. We just repeat that dummies are just for sleeping/bedtime. Be consistent and good luck, they are strong willed!
