again as I couldn't get him to settle any other way. Sometimes he'll fall asleep (quietly) on his own in the carrycot, sometimes he'll fall asleep drinking his milk, sometimes we have to walk round the room holding him for a while and he drops off to sleep then we put him in the carrycot (sling doesn't work as he gets too snuggly and wakes up as soon as we try and put him down).

He didn't want to settle on his own, he didn't want any more milk (breast or bottle), he didn't need winding, and he didn't just want a cuddle. I walked round the room for 15 minutes and he kept nearly falling asleep but then not,and my arms were so sore I thought I'd drop him so had to put him down.....and he's finally fallen asleep after about 10 minutes of screaming.

When DH gets him settled he NEVER has to leave him to cry, always managed to get him to sleep with no tears.......so why the hell can't I????

Can he smell your milk?

I could NEVER get ds to settle ( I was expressing rather than b/f him) wheras dh and also fil could.

I had to resign myself to the fact that ds was a contact baby, he liked close mummy contact whereas dd was a very leave me alone to get to sleep or I will cry baby.

I don't know - perhaps - but he does sometimes settle without any crying (or at most a few little half hearted whimpers). Today he was just awful - and whereas 7 weeks ago I was getting distraught that he was refusing the breast (and screaming hystericaly when I tried to feed him) today I got upset because he got hysterical over the bottle (although he took 4oz this morning quite happily, and 6oz at about 3.30. Plus the odd oz here and there throughout the day....

5-10 mins of crying sounds ok to me. My ds quite often had a little scream off to sleep. it was just the way he was. He did really like the mobile music box, when he was bigger he used to put it on himself if he woke in the night! dd likes that too, though she's more oif a scream until mummy comes in and gives me more milk kind of baby..
Don't like the pacing up and down idea, DH might be getting less crying but personally I think your tack is better in the long run.

actually I think DH just likes holding him - and sometimes sits on the sofa (with DS3 in his arms) "until he's sure he's settled".......and then "oops has it really been 1 1/2hrs I've been sat here with him, never mind I'll stick him in his carrycot next time" (and I'm not complaining - he does the middle of the night feed every night .

not to mention the fact that DH didn't want a 3rd child, very emphatically so wanting me to terminate when we found out I was pg !

Now he's the doting daddy.

If he was older (6 months+) (DS3 this is not DH LOL) I wouldn't mind the crying so much - we did CC with DS1 - and would have done it with DS2 if needed (didn't have to - he slept like a dream from 3 weeks old ). If DS3 still hasn't managed to start settling himself regularly when he's 6 months he'll get the same treatment .

ooh never tried the cc thing. bit worried I might have to with dd as she tend to go to sleep on my lap after bedtime feed. Sleeps really badly in the day but through at night fingerscrossed.

ds had his little screamy screamy from quite tiny. not sure if it was cc it was just his way. Hev loves his sleeps. dd thinks sleep is for whimps.
