Very insure after settling in session (nursery)

DS (18 months) had a settling in session at nursery today which meant I was with him for an hour. The transition to nursery is a big step for him and I suspect he’ll find it hard at first but that over time being in a nursery environment will be good for him.

I feel very anxious and uncertain with the nursery though after watching the staff interact with another relatively new child. They didn’t offer very warm comfort to the child which I feel they need at this age.

What do I do now? Do I see how the rest of the week goes (DS will be there on his own) or make a decision based on today?

We’ve paid a term’s fees upfront starting in September. I don’t know if that is refundable. Do I contact them today to tell them I am considering cancelling?

I’ve name changed for this post but I’m not new.

To be honest I’d start your DS there and see his he settles. You don’t know the context with the other child and sometimes there is an explanation as to why staff are behaving in a certain way, maybe the child reacts better to a more understated way of caring as over the top comfort makes them more upset? Perhaps the other child’s parents have asked staff to comfort them in a certain way? Having worked in nurseries I know there are many possibilities in a situation like this and wouldn’t judge based on that. If your DS starts there and isn’t happy you can move him but I’d give them the chance to be honest.

Thank you. I wasn’t expecting to be but was reassured after today’s session - so I think you may be right in that it could have been an approach to meet a specific child’s needs. DS was there for a bit on his own today. He cried quite a bit on and off but I think that’s to be expected because it’s such a big change for him and one of the staff comforted him.
