Hi, I'm in need of some advice and maybe some kind words tonight. I had my 4th very rough day with my DD today. She is usually very placid and happy, has occasional off days alright as with any baby. Since crawling she has gotten more Whingey in general but the last week she is going around like a demon. Literally growling, shouting, crying non stop. Even mid crawl she's growling. Like she is literally content nowhere except in car (with soother) or asleep. It's not like her to the extent I gave her nurofen today wondering was she in pain but it made no difference. Anyone been through similar? Any ideas greatly appreciated as I spent half today in tears as finding her impossible to cope with

Hmmmm not growling per se but my lo used to make a grumbling noise quite a lot just before he was about to do something big, or started crawling or walking. It was like it was frustration at wanting to do the next step but being unable to do it yet. Not sure if that helps you but it did stop once the next developmental leap was done Smile

Yup, my DS used to growl at about that age. It was like he was playing with his sounds the little growler. Less than a year later he was improvising grammar. At 2 he was telling me he'wanted, 'something big and heavy to eat - about this big' along with the fisherman's hand gestures. No idea where he got any of it from.

He's a head teacher now.

Thanks ladies, when I sat growlingi mean in a discontent way rather than as a new sound. I think maybe she is frustrated and just wants to walk but I feel last few days It's something more, she just seems in a constant bad mood and is throwing tantrums non stop 🙈😪

DS is 11 months and a real challenge at the moment in similar ways. I think it's frustration and one of those 'leaps' that are talked about in Wonder Weeks.

He will never sit still. I mean, he no longer sits and plus with toys. He is climbing on everything. He scaled the full staircase yesterday (under supervision) and has also managed to climb up onto our window ledge.

I know I should feel happy about his inquisitive nature yadda yadda yadda, but it is flaming exhausting.

I took him to soft play 4 days in row this week to burn off some energy. But by day 3 he'd realised that the baby area was a 'pen' and is now no longer content in there and wants to crawl around the cafeteria area and pull himself up on the chair and tables and other peoples legs.

I should add that this has been accompanied by little tantrums etc when you stop him so there have been days when he's been v grumpy and whiny and whingy. To the point where I'm sick of the sound.

Makes you feel guilty of course, and then you feel worse.

No answers here but sympathy for sure!

@feelingsicknow glad I'm not the only one. I was wondering was it a leap but she's finished her last one and have never seen any other leap have much effect on her. Brought her to soft play today and she loved it for 20 mins, then the clinging to mama and whinging commenced. It's so tough, and you're right, the noise goes through you. I feel I'm getting angry with her at times as all she wants is to climb on me then whinges to get back down. Some days are better than others but feeling wrecked now 😪🙈

God that sounds so familiar. The climbing and then whinging.

Things I've done lately:

Started to reach him Incy Wincy Spider with hand movements and ending in tickling (he has never been bothered/interested in that before but has finally started to like it)

Reading lift the flap books (again, he wasn't the least bit interested when everyone else was saying their babies loved books months ago - now he actually likes turning the pages and likes when I do my silly animal voices. This is a breakthrough because up until now he has only wanted to eat books)

Both of these things I've found can start to distract him when he is in his climbing, whingy state.

Clearly the internet is playing up and I didn't mean to post that a gazillion times!

Becnog · 05/08/2019 22:06

Yes she also loves books! Will happily snuggle in so I read them to her...... though I have to use the solid books or she'll year the pages 🙈
She used to love songs with actions bit is so over them.
I knew she was teething as could see one tooth near, only realised yesterday now that's up, two others are in process, so fingers crossed once they cut through she might be a little happier 🤞
