Dc1 starting secondary school in September. Very hard wearing on shoes. Would have had black leather trainers in primary but obviously not allowed for secondary.

Has tendency to play football in school shoes regardless of fact has trainers in bag.

What are good, suitable shoes for him that he wont hate me for buying?

treads school shoes are pretty hard wearing and the ones i linked are designed for boys who like to be active x

sleep has your dc had treads shoes? I was looking at them but saw someone on here say they were horrible and heavy?

Black leather trainers may well be allowed in secondary, not all schools are the same.

yep, ds had them a few years ago. didn't find them too heavy although they were than the likes of clarks etc. its easy to send them back anyway, so if you find them too clunky then you can just get a refund x

IVEgottheDECAF · 31/07/2019 17:12

Ty will definitely consider!

Any more suggestions?

Do you know any parents who have kids already at the school? Our secondary say no trainers but in reality most wear black leather trainers. We spent £50 on shoes for year 7 and replaced them within weeks with trainers. I wish I'd have asked other parents and not wasted money on shoes.

MonChatEstMagnifique · 31/07/2019 17:21

And if they say definitely no trainers, you could ask what their kids wear.

Kickers are pretty bomb proof. DS14 just wears the most sturdy looking Clarks lace ups. He wore Geox school shoes before and they lasted well (the less trainery ones). He walks three miles a day through fields and they lasted a year

The only boy i know who goes there wears extremely pointy shoes. His parents tell me definitely no trainers.

I bought him kickers two years back. They lasted about 2 months!

Following for advice on my son who’s school won’t allow trainers x

Banjodancer · 31/07/2019 17:40

That's fine decaff it's just you wrote they obviously aren't allowed as if everywhere is the same. I agree too that what the policy says and what actually happens may not be the same, I have driven near the school in termtime to look at what's on their feet!

Nix32 · 31/07/2019 17:41

Start rite rhino do a formal but hard wearing lace up style.

IVEgottheDECAF · 31/07/2019 17:43

Ah right i thought secondary schools are usually much tighter than primary re uniform! This school requires teachers permission to take off blazer and jumper!

Doctor Martens.

Following!

My 11 year old DS has extremely narrow size 7 feet, and shoes seem to evaporate after about a term.

TraffordTansy · 31/07/2019 20:01

My ds has just done five years of high school on three pairs of Geox, I found Next had the ones he likes.

TeenTimesTwo · 31/07/2019 20:02

Trainer style definitely not permitted at DD's school.

IVEgottheDECAF · 31/07/2019 20:04

Ty trafford do you know what they were called?
