Does this sound like teething?

Hi everyone :)

My first baby is 3 months old, im wondering if he's teething. The symptoms he's showing are:

  • dribbling a lot!
  • chewing anything he can get in his mouth, mainly his hands
  • irritability
  • crying more
  • eating less amounts but have more frequent feeds

I know all of this does sound like teething, but I've tried to feel his gums and I have nothing compare it to as he's my first. They are hard at the top, but I'm not sure if that's just how they should feel? I don't feel any teeth or anything.

He's usually the happiest smiliest boy and only ever really cries for a bottle or if he's tired. But the past few days something can distract him for 10 minutes and he's crying again. Baby TV seems to distract him and keep him happy for longer, but then I'm worried about him watching too much TV?

Any advice? Thank you all in advance :) xx

It does sound like teething but he could also be going through a developmental phase aswell where they are just fussier in general.

Have you downloaded the wonder weeks app as this will tell you when to expect fussy behaviour?

I’ve found with my son who is now 7 months the teething started at 3 months on/off but his first teeth came through at 6 months.

You can obviously use various teething products which may help. I’ve found anbesol and nurofen help for when it’s really bad.

Don’t worry about TV, I think we all use it to get through the fussy days!

Who knows. I had exactly the same with my lo at 3 months. He now 6.5 months still with no teeth, chewing everything in sight and dribbling everywhere

My dd was the same, teething symptoms on and off from about 3 months but didnt cut her first tooth til she was 10 months! now at 12 months she has 5 (nearly 6) teeth. 2 of them gave her real pain but the others popped through without us hardly noticing

Yes, it sounds very much like teething. That you can't feel or see anything, is not relevant - often a tooth (or more) will just push upwards in he gum a little bit and then stop again, so they can be teething for a while without actual teeth showing up.

I'd use teething gel and make sure he has a lot of things to bite on. Cooling them down first in the freezer is even better against the pain.

And any amount of TV is too much TV for a baby.
