Last week my toddler finally called me mummy, I was so happy however it's now constant mummy mummy mummy.

Before he wasn't clingy to me at all but now even when DH is home and my Mum is temporarily living with us all he wants is me. He just cries and shouts mummy if I ignore him.

Im starting to feel a bit suffocated

Any advise or do I need to wait for this to pass

Thank you

It’ll pass. I used to have to say to my kids ‘enough I don’t want to hear the word “mummy” for the next hour’!

I want to know when does it stop? DS is 6 and it's not letting up he yells it constantly, regardless of whether he actually needs anything, or has something to tell me. He must have said it a million times.

Oh god I remember this phase!
DS1: Mummy
Me: Yes?
DS1: Mummy
Me: Yes
DS1: Mummy
Me: arghhh!!

It's a normal thing and will pass eventually.

DD is nearly 5 and I hear Mummy a million times a day. Even if it's just me and her and there is no one else she can be talking to, every sentence starts with Mummy. Get used to it! Grin

RiddleyW · 28/07/2019 08:26

Yes DS does this all the time at 5. Including just bellowing “MUMMY WHERE ARE YOOOU!?” often seconds after I’ve left the room telling him where I’m going.

Mumsymumphy · 28/07/2019 08:47

My DD is 8 and has taken to saying "Mam-ma, mam-ma, mam-ma" in the style of Stewey off Family Guy if I'm out of sight for 3 seconds. It never stops 😁

My DS (18mo) says "maaaa-maaaaa" or "paaa-paaaa" CONSTANTLY, we just reply with his name in the same singsong voice. No advice other than trying to keep in good humour about it. Sometimes I ignore him, sometimes I say his name back (if I do that a handful of times he tends to chill out and stop for a while), sometimes I go and see whatever it is he wants to show me. I assume it'll pass- eventually!
