Baby overly sleepy wouldn't feed - WORRY!

My LO (2 months) last feed was around 9:30, but didn't have a lot (like the entire day - sweating hot!).

Then he was swaddled by a very thin muslin square with only nappy on. I let him sleep as he was not able to most of the day. Then I waited until around 00:30 and tried to breastfeed a bit. But he's so sleepy and not interested in latching on at all. I'm really worried as the temperature might have made him dehydrated. I tried to express little by little to his mouth directly to allow him gradually swallow with reflex. But this did last very long, as the position of doing so is just too awkward and ineffective.

I'm now having a baby in solid sleep on my lap, not knowing if I shall just let him sleep or not!!!

I’d wake him every 2 hours for food if you are worried and consider a teaspoon of (cooled boiled) water or two on top of the milk.

Oh and drink like a fish yourself. You need to be hydrated to output liquid!

I now regret for having let him sleep too long!

Now he literally wouldn't latch on at all - mouth shut and not interested no matter what I do. I can only express in his month that much. He's been ebf and I don't even have a bottle to work on!

Change his nappy and wipe him with a baby wipe pop on the lamp and stick him back on your boob

BingBo · 26/07/2019 02:28

roundigament, thank you! I used luke warm wet cotton pad to wipe him and changed nappy. It worked. He fed on and off for about 10 minutes. Should be enough to last for another hour or so. I can have a break from this battle now!

Glad he's fed for you!
Just keep an eye on nappy output as that's always a good indicator they're getting what they need.

If it happens again strip both of you off for skin to skin which should help him to become interested in feeding.
