8 Week Immunisations

My baby had her 8 week immunisations this morning she seemed fine this morning was her smiley self, gave 2nd dose of calpol and since then she's been crying all afternoon/evening.

She won't settle unless she's on me and has had a temp for the past few hours. She had her 3rd calpol dose 1hr a go and it didn't seem to do anything.

She's very sleepy and not asking for feeds, so trying to feed her regularly. I'm really starting to worry especially because of the weather I'm worried she's going to overheat in the night.

I know it's normal for babies to get a fever after the immunisations, do I just wait it out and see how she is tomorrow? I feel like the heat isn't helping her. Can I give her more calpol in 4 hours or do I have to stick to 3 doses? Any advice/experience would be greatly appreciated

You can give a fourth dose if she still has a temperature four hours after you’ve given the third. If it doesn’t go down after that, you need to seek medical advice.

(That’s what the nurse told me when I took my daughter for hers).

I hope she feels better soon - my daughter had her 16 week jabs on Tuesday and yesterday evening was a nightmare but things seem to have improved today.

I found nurofen for babies worked better to bring down babies temp after jabs and you can take it alongside calpol. Good luck, doesn't help that it's so warm out. X

My baby had hers on Tuesday (late at 11 weeks due to various reasons)

She hasn't had a temperature, but has been so unsettled and crying all the time.

Have you tried skin to skin? I know you don't want to be cuddling a feverish baby in this weather, but it's amazing for regulating their temp.

Mine took badly from his first jabs, but that was in December so I can't offer you any advice about the weather.

You can only give 4 doses of calpol in 24 hours, I would space them every 6 hours. Give ibrupofen between if you're worried.

Thanks everyone for the advice. Her temp came down the next morning, she was a bit fussy in the night but we just kept a close eye on her. I don't think the hot weather helped the whole thing.

I don't think you can give ibuprofen til 3 months old

Hopefully the next ones won't be as bad!
