how do I ...?

What position should he use? what direction to wipe?

DS has various SN, is just about getting better at independent toiletting in time for starting school, but has no idea or desire to wipe his own bottom, and I simply don't know how to teach him.

Help??!! thanks.

I'd say, start with his hand palm up on top of your hand, and toilet tissue on his palm. You direct his hand to wipe the required area in a backwards direction, then fold the tissue and wipe again. Teach him to look at the tissue, and when there are no marks on the piece facing him he can stop and wash his hands and flush loo. Show him what amount of tissue is acceptable or you may end up with a blockage! Explain that he has to wipe after each poo to keep his pants clean (buy new big boys pants, his choice, for going to school as encouragement.) You can gradually withdraw your hand so that he's wiping alone, and when you think he's competent he can go solo!
Choose what ever position is most comfortable for him, those child seats don't give much room to get hand in, but he could try shuffling forwards on it to make more room behind.
