What does baby wear to bed in this heat?

Yep I’m being thick but just wondering what everyone puts baby in for bed in this heat? My little girl is one and last night she just had pyjamas on but I’m thinking tonight and tomorrow with how warm it is forecast to be would she be better in shorts and T-shirt pyjamas or is she likely to get cold come the early hours? Just curious what everyone else does?

Last night I put her in a vest nothing else.. I’m not even sure if to leave her with just a nappy tbh it’s so warm I don’t want her to over heat, I check the weather for the next day and the day also how many degrees it is aswell it’s just so warm I get so worried she is too warm

Tonight will just be a vest in our house. Most of the time she’s just been in a sleepsuit and no blanket over the past few weeks but the house seems to retain heat especially upstairs. Thursday will need to be ice and a fan I think or possibly decamping downstairs.

I picked up a tip on here to open the loft hatch and it has made a difference.

See I find this confusing too- I've seen the chart, but our room is same temp as LOs and we have pjs (like shorts + tshirts) plus a 4.5 tog duvet, not too mention the furnace-like heat that radiates from DHGrin
LO on the other hand, is in a room on her own, so no extra body heat, and I have her in a vest and a 2.5 tog sleeping bag, but looks like that's way too much?

I used to just put them in a nappy and pop them in a pillow case when they were really tiny.

SoyDora · 23/07/2019 19:46

Mammalian my room is the same temp as the babies.... tonight I will be in pants, no duvet and if DH so much as breathes on me I’ll be chucking him into the spare room Grin

13 month old in a Romper PJs no sleep sack - night time temp is likely to be 16degrees so she'll be fine until the morning .

EAIOU · 23/07/2019 20:10

Mines is in a vest and sleepsuit but I've had curtains shut all day in bedroom so it is cooler than rest of the house.

SoyDora · 23/07/2019 20:13

I’ve had the curtains closed all day too and his bedroom is still 29 degrees Shock

MerryDeath · 23/07/2019 20:15

mine is 2 and a bit and he's in a nappy

georgialondon · 23/07/2019 20:16

28 degrees in our bedroom. Baby is in just a vest bodysuit.

oyoyoy · 23/07/2019 20:17

Nappy and babygrow (we have the fan on the middle setting in the room).

georgialondon · 23/07/2019 20:17

I always go by the grobag chart.

BishopofBathandWells · 23/07/2019 20:24

Sleeveless vest and pyjama shorts here. DD (16 months) has a small fan next to her cot too. She likes to be tucked under her blanket to drop off to sleep but kicks it off when she gets too hot. I think we're due a storm tonight too (hopefully) so the temperature might drop again overnight.

buzzkills · 23/07/2019 20:24

@Mammalian because a sleeping bag goes underneath the body as well as on top, it traps a layer of air. Also with it being zipped, it doesn't have any airflow like your duvet does (when you move in your sleep air can get in and out since your duvet isn't zipped to the bed). This means a 2.5 tog sleeping bag is way way hotter than what a 2.5 duvet would be, a 2.5 tog bag is more like an autumn/winter 10 tog duvet.

TinyMystery · 23/07/2019 20:39

Just a T-shirt and nappy tonight here. It’s 25 in our bedroom with the fan on and it’s unlikely to get cooler with two more bodies in the room once we go to bed. If it was 23/24 I probably would have put him in his 1tog sleeping bag in just his nappy.

boomboom1234 · 23/07/2019 20:43

Nappy and a light blanket

sylbunny · 23/07/2019 20:45

Nappy and a 1 tog. If it gets hotter it'll be just a nappy.

Sunshinegirl82 · 23/07/2019 21:00

3 yo DS is in short pyjamas and no covers. Fan on in the room to try and move the air a bit!

Baby DS (11 weeks) is in a short sleeved vest. I'll check him in the night a cover with a cellular blanket or two if the temperature drops.

I was always told it's better to err on the side of too cold than too hot so I tend to start with not much and then add layers if necessary.

Mrsmummy90 · 23/07/2019 22:08

Google: gro company what to wear

You type in the temperature of the room, baby’s age and weight and it tells you what they should be wearing :)

PurpleFlower1983 · 23/07/2019 23:44

Just a nappy and light blanket here, if much rather her cry if she’s cold than overheat.

b0bb1n · 24/07/2019 07:09

Ours has been in a nappy only most nights lately as it gets so hot in our bedroom. 29 degrees last night!

SoyDora · 24/07/2019 07:18

A family member is a paediatrician in America and he very bluntly says ‘cold babies cry, hot babies die’.

Blondiecub0109 · 24/07/2019 07:24

@soydora has a really good point. We were advised to err on the side of them being a little too cold rather than run the risk of overheating.

23c, 5 month old was happy all night in just a nappy. He still wakes a few times and even his hands were warm to touch.

He does ‘run hot’ though and often in fewer clothes than his peers

birdseyebirdsnose · 24/07/2019 07:42

My one year old sweats like a trooper - he's just been wearing a nappy when it gets above 22 degrees at night

SS1987 · 24/07/2019 08:06

Hope everyone is coping in this heat 🥵 think we’ll definitely be going with just a nappy for the next few nights. Cooling down on Saturday (thank god) so back to normal! No doubt I’ll be back in winter asking what you all do to keep baby warm haha
