Hi I'm due with dd2 3rd Oct and I am putting dd1 in preschool (nursery attached to school) Jan at 25 months. I was going to put her in 2 full days 9-3 but don't know if that's a bit much with me being off work but I'll have a 3 month old by January so it will give me some time with the new baby

Dd1 never went to any childcare my mum and mil had her while I work but I'll be on mat leave

It's much cheaper than nursery £24 per day. But feel a bit guilty should I do 2 mornings for first 6 months? Mornings are 9-11:45

Hey,

I manage a day nursery and def two full days, it gives them a longer time at the setting to get use to it. Half days the children always tend to take longer to settle in. It's like they just get use to the flow of the day and then they go.

I would start out with two half days and then move up to two full days within a few weeks for a more gentle, gradual transition. The lure of getting to have a packed lunch was a good incentive for staying on for my children

I would do two half days but mainly because both my children still napped at that age. So couldn't cope with a full day. Or you are paying for them to nap somewhere else which is a waste.

What about 3 or 4 half days? That way it's a more regular feature of her week, you get a few hours at a time with baby and if she's getting the 15 hours at 3 it's less of a jump

@BeckieMc what do you mean by it being a bit much with me being off work are you feeling guilty about this? If so, dont - its good to make decisions that work for all of you and allows you some extra time with your youngest baby.

I personally would do 3 or 4 half days until 3 so they can still nap after lunch.

Thanks everyone I'll do 3 half days instead she can than have dinner with me and then have a nap in her own bed x
