Basically what it says in the title ^, also does anyone know where the best place is to get baby friendly paint? Or child friendly?

I have a 13-month-old. I make my own paint from food colouring, water and flour. It takes a while to dry, but it's edible - and if your DC is anything like mine then that's a really good thing!

Other activities we do if we're staying in include: making dens; we get the ball pool out occasionally; we'll put disco lights/musicon and dance; puppet shows. Honestly though, we're just out in the garden constantly at the moment. He is obsessed with his water table and paddling pool!

I have just bought normal child paints from The Works as I want her to learn not to eat them, I do watch her carefully though. She loves books and pretends to read to me, she likes finding toys that are hidden in her ball pool too. Also she enjoys stirring and 'helping' to bake, play dough and water games. Bubble sculptures in a washing up bowl is also fun.

Have fun playing with shaving foam in the bath tub!
Make dens and tunnels and tents with sheets and furniture
Blow bubbles to pop
At that age, my dc loved printing - hand printing, potato printing etc..
Make a drum kit with upturned pots and pans and wooden spoons!
Roll balls down ramps!
Hide small objects (we used to use clothes pegs) round the house and go hunting for them.
Make a washing line indoors and hang up anything you can find - pieces of paper, hats, gloves, empty cereal boxes!
Stack and unstack paper cups
The VTech pop and drop digger was a huge success with my dc. The wooden click clack track also occupied them for long spells.
Get a sandpit and hide toys in it. Make sandcastles for them to jump on.
Bounceca balloon around and on their head! This used to send my DS into fits of laughter.
Once I had shown my DS how to rip paper, there was no stopping him. He loved the sound it made and I'd give him an old magazine and he'd happily tear it to shreds.
Cook up a big saucepan of porridge and let it go cold. Add some food colouring and it turns into a fantastic squelchy messy play activity, especially with little toys hidden! I do the same with custard and with mashed potato using a packet of instant smash! Polenta works well too, as does cooked couscous or cooked spaghetti.

We used to do peanut butter play dough. Making dens and tunnels. Reading books.

And lots of spinning in circles and running around shouting Grin

Aquadoodle - it's a mat you draw on using just water. The image appears and then fades when it dries.
Loads and loads of water play. I used to put the old baby bath on a low coffee table (the LACK IKEA ones cost £4) and fill it with luke warm water and toys. Hours and hours of play.
Teddy bear's picnics
Singalongs with silly actions
We had a sort of toddler gym with disco lights and music and noises and bits you could post things into and levers you could pull and holes you could crawl through. That was played with for hours too. It was a bit like this one. Seems expensive but the hours and hours spent playing with it for well over a year from about 9 months to about 2.5 years meant it was well worth it.

I was going to post this exact thing. However a lot of the stuff on here wouldn't really suit my DD, she's nowhere near to walking and she definitely wouldn't understand the concept of a lot of this stuff yet. Her communication and movement are both a bit behind, perhaps more behind now than I realised Sad...messy play she does a lot of it at nursery so I don't really see the need to do more at home and it's not really my thing. But she is starting to get bored of her toys and she didn't get many new ones for her birthday as I was expecting so I'm a bit at a loss as to how to entertain her sometimes when we get stuck at home if the weather's bad. We also don't have a garden so that's not an option either!

flower8169 · 17/07/2019 14:48

My dd isn't walking yet and she hasn't crawled either

MeadowHay · 17/07/2019 15:00

Mine neither - she's 13 months and never crawled. But she is mobile, she is a bum shuffler. She steps forward with her right leg and then shuffles her bum forward, it is quite amusing to watch!

MustBeAWeasly · 17/07/2019 15:03

@meadowhay don't worry I doubt she's that behind! my dd is 14m and most of this stuff here we wouldn't be able to do at all, she's only just pulling herself up and not listening to instruction.
Dd mostly ignores me and just likes me to sit with her while she plays. We have pots and put objects in them and then take them out again.
Push cars around, play with water, spread flour over the floor and play with it. Play clap hand games, peekaboo, sing songs. And a box if tissues will keep her entertained for ages!!
Shaving foam in the tub is a brilliant idea!
