My 18 month old son fell asleep after a very active day at 5:00pm. Since he had no nap (which he usually does around 12:30) I was being optimistic thinking he might sleep through and into the night. He has woken at 8:30 which means he’s basically had a 3 hour nap, what the hell do I do?! A very active day for him also means a very active day for me and I am tired Confused . Also he only had 2 meals because he slept through dinner

I'd probably give him some food and then do the bedtime routine in an hour. Good luck!!

Yes I agree, something light to eat, quiet play, then bath and story and bed at 10 30 or so.

Give him some food, sit o and the sofa and watch TV, let him Potter about or watch ipad or something. Mine know after 8ish,if they're downstairs still for some reason then it's quiet time. We'll, that's the idea 😁

Don't worry, give him some food if he is hungry, chill out and let him have a late night.

Thank you all for the quick replies! I’ll run him a bath in an hour or two and begin the night time routine. I’m so exhausted I’m terrified 🤣 I’ll stick on a movie in bed and let him potter around as he pleases until bathtime, thank you all! Let’s hope he doesn’t know the difference between 5 hours between nap and bedtime and 1.5 hour 😂

Cup of calpol warm milk?

Wheeliemummy · 15/07/2019 22:06

My dd does this regularly unless we take her out for long walk in buggy in afternoon even after a busy morning being out she just won't sleep during day. Ends up similar thing, falls asleep at 5 then gets up at 8 but we keep things calm. Keep lights dim, something light to eat maybe rather than dinner otherwise might not want dinner when you offer but then get hungry right before sleep so harder to settle and bedtime ends up running way over. Yoghurts etc.. I would personally suggest watching iPad quietly having cuddles because you can switch the brightness down on an iPad which mean melatonin levels don't rise and getting back to sleep may be easier. Good luck ! 👍

In future wake him up at 5.30!!

For now, warm milk, bedtime routine and cuddles.

TheFurryMenace · 15/07/2019 22:16

If you want him to sleep do not let him have to or iPad. The light from it stops melatonin kicking in which will trick his brain into thinking it is day/play time.

TheFurryMenace · 15/07/2019 22:18

Tv not to.

lovelilies · 16/07/2019 13:36

I know that's the theory re blue light etc however IME of 3 DC, they will sit quietly and fall asleep on the safe with ipad or TV on just fine
