Never used a potty with DS but decided to with DD. DP thinks I am barking when I said as far as I know they poo and pee in potty and you chuck it down toilet and rinse it out.

'What do you do if it won't go into toilet?' he asked. 'Ummm' I said. It's made more confusing by the potty liner I bought for the portable potty. he wants to use these for normal potty.

Has he a point are there liners you can get for potties?

what does he mean?

Is he not able to wipe it into the loo with toilet roll?

beansprout · 29/07/2007 19:55

Or a baby wipe for a really sticky one?!

drosophila · 29/07/2007 19:55

Yeah I think the idea freaks him even though he has wiped more bums than I can count.

YOu know sticky poo. Also how do you rinse it out. Our loo is close to bath so I thought shower hose into loo.

psml - he is wrong! if he has a problem with it, he could always put some loo roll in the bottom of the potty first.

heymammy · 29/07/2007 19:57

Hmm, don't know about potty liners. I just put a couple of sheets of loo roll in the bottom of the potty...it just seemed cleaner I suppose. Was much easier to tip down the loo as well.

PrettyCandles · 29/07/2007 19:58

You mean, if it sticks in the potty? Just wipe it out with toilet paper. You have to clean the potty after every use in any case.

You could put some toilet paper in the potty first, but that's just adding extra hassle for you. I certainly wouldn't use the portable potty liner - unless it's flushable.

MadEyeMisdee · 29/07/2007 19:58

i tip in as much as possible, any residue gets wiped with a flushable cleaning wipe/toddler wipe, the potty sprayed with anti bac stuff.

those disposable potty liners are expensive.

ChasingSquirrels · 29/07/2007 19:59

I used to just tap it on the loo, and occasionally hold it in the flush.

FrannyandZooey · 29/07/2007 19:59

I rinsed it in the bath if it needed more than a wipe with loo roll / baby wipe

it is not as scary as it sounds, really

potties are fairly smooth and it all slides off - easier than wiping bottoms IMO

PrettyCandles · 29/07/2007 20:00

I used to wipe it with toilet paper, then just rinse it in the basin and dry with toilet paper. Every evening I sprayed it with Dettox and left it to drain on the basin or bath. The waste water from loo, basin and bath all ends up in the same sewer.

UCM · 29/07/2007 20:03

Well I have only done this potty thing once and my opinion was, if it's a pee, it goes down the sink, the kitchen sink, and gets a rinse. A poo goes upstairs to the loo.

However I had one of them sit on ones with a little bowl that you lift out. I wouldn't bother with all that liner crap. It's only baby poo/wee.

UCM · 29/07/2007 20:03

Oh and yes, every now and then it went in the dishwasher.

Thanks guys. Sometimes he makes me fell like I have missed something really obvious so good to know my understanding was on the money.
