Double pram vs Public transport

This is probably done to the dogs but I’ve emailed our bus company for measurements and they told me to phone each morning, like that’ll help me buy a pram that’ll fit Confused,

Next year I’ll have two under 1, yes I’m insane no it really wasn’t planned and no I’ll never make direct eye contact with a man again since I’m apparently super fertile after struggling with ds.

I rely on public transport, a lot, I can’t drive and dm has a tiny car that doesn’t even fit my single pram, so I’m up a creek with no paddle for lifts.

I really don’t want a tandem with the baby in the basket look.. I wouldn’t want to stare at my dsis’s rear end for possibly two years of my life. And I’m highly unlikely to be out with one until ds is in nursery or walking far enough and not napping (were 2miles each way from the shop)

I need a double that fits through a regular bus, no back doors, just a wheelchair and a pram space, id love a side by side that can parent face, with a carrycot for tiny and ds can pick n choose his outlook. I do love the bugaboo donkey.. but i don’t know if it fits, and I certainly won’t manage to take a baby out to hold while I reduce it for the journey, assuming ds won’t be reliably mobile at 10months when I’m induced.

I’ve looked at the mountain buggy online, can’t seem to find a shop that stocks it to actually get a feel for it though. Again pushing it for roughly 5miles a day it needs to be a war horse.

I’ll try and add a picture of our buses interiors if it helps. But double prams and buses? What’s the best suggestions?

@PotteringAlong do you know me? Apparently better than I know myself...

@Lunafortheloveogod could you take a tape measure with you one day when you know the us you will be quiet? That's my plan

@SleepingStandingUp I’ve got the measure app on my phone so I’m determine to sneak on with that when it’s not busy and hopefully a tape measure. The mountain buggy seems to be my top runner just considering how heavy it’ll be eventually too I don’t know if I could “bump” a big tandem icandy on the bus or down stairs Sad

I really don’t know anyone expects you to hold a newborn and a 10 month old and fold a pram down while removing anything in the basket in a small space.. with no where to put it either Confused people won’t hold my ds well people I’d trust, not giving him to an addict to hold while I fold the pram ffs.

@Lunafortheloveogod sounds like a plan.
Read enough pram threads and you'll see that back in the day, when prams weren't allowed in up, people carried a sack of potatoes, newborn triplets and a months shopping in one hand whilst collapsing a large pram, folding it and stowing it safely on the bus, all within 5 seconds so as not to inconvenice anyone else. Otherwise they walked 2 hours each way every day because they were so flipping awesome

We have twins and use the bus all the time. The cosatto double and Jolie double both fit and can be used from birth. The redkite double does not. You can get it pass poles sometimes need to tip it back a bit if the wheels swivel. They are a tight fit tho. Good luck.

aphrodites · 15/07/2019 11:49

Hello from someone with 3 under 3. I had a bugaboo donkey which fits fine on buses even smaller single deckers, I swapped it this week though for a mountain buggy duet as it's a lot narrower and fits through our front door much easier.

Youngandfree · 15/07/2019 11:56

If I were you I would learn to drive, I did it whilst pregnant so it’s possible.

Youngandfree · 15/07/2019 11:57

But also I did fit a bugaboo donkey on a bus a few times.

Butterfly02 · 15/07/2019 12:31

Jane power twin pro - used it with my twins, on buses and was great although as they got bigger was very heavy, had a lightweight side by side which was great for holidays / days out but couldn't fit through shop doors / on public transport. Did often use a sling and single pushchair as an alternative. On bus several times had to fold down pushchair have eldest sit with one twin on his knee till I'd soughted everything then ended up with two on my knee not ideal.

Lunafortheloveogod · 15/07/2019 12:47

@Youngandfree do you have a cure for seizure disorders? I cannot bloody drive not everyone can and not everyone can afford it either. For us unlimited travel is £31 a week.. there’s no car that costs that even if I was able.

We've got the mountain buggy duet and it's super slimline! It's only 1 inch wider than the silvercross pioneer which we had for dd x

Teddybear45 · 15/07/2019 12:55

If you have a seizure disorder I don’t think taking two kids by yourself on public transport is a good idea. Have seen what happens during a seizure on public transport in London when kids are involved - the paramedics will take you, and then the police will be called to take the kids. There’s usually a gap in-between when the bus driver / tfl staff will look after the kids.

Youngandfree · 15/07/2019 13:23

Well no @Lunafortheloveogod I don’t but it would be handy if you put that info in your OP as you’re probably going to get a get few ppl suggesting you learn to drive! Confused

Youngandfree · 15/07/2019 13:25

My other suggestion would be possibly giving your DM money so she can get a bigger car??

Lunafortheloveogod · 15/07/2019 13:38

@Teddybear45 not that I have to explain myself but I have abscence seizures.. I don’t fall to the floor I don’t twitch I don’t even drop my cup. I can feel them coming on, obviously not 100%, so I sit on my arse or stop what I’m doing so I’m not going to be in any danger. I’ve never had a paramedic come and escort me away either. I’m perfectly fine to have two children with me on a bus. I’m mostly controlled by medication too but obviously it’s not safe to drive as you can’t always pull over or if I didn’t get an aura warning feeling I wouldn’t have control of the car for a moment.
They last between 10 and 30 seconds too so unless your really watching me you’d likely miss it, staring off into another world, excessive blinking, silent mid sentence basically. No children will be harmed by me looking into nothingness for 30 seconds while sitting down. Also why having a stroller for a toddler sized kid is important while out in busy towns.

@Youngandfree I’ve said somewhere, possibly not the first post but again I’m asking for doubles that fit on buses not driving instructors. And unfortunately I don’t crap money either to buy DM a larger car.. would be a lovely gesture but that’s definitely not in the stretch of the budget. Her car is only two years old so she won’t be needing a new one soon.

@Lunafortheloveogod As I said the bugaboo donkey is a good one. I sold mine for 500 after 4 years so you might be able to pick up a second hand one.

Minai · 15/07/2019 15:47

I originally had a tandem oyster max and that got on a bus ok but I hated it. It was heavy, hard to steer, little one hated not being able to look out. I was reluctant to get a side by side because I don’t drive so often get buses.

I got a joie aire twin and it is brilliant. Buses around here you get on at the middle and I park them straight in the spot where wheelchairs go (obviously if there is no one using it) and it fits fine. There’s even enough room for another pram if someone else gets on with one.

babysharkah · 15/07/2019 16:13

I couldn't fit my donkey on a bus like that it had to have doors at the back. You would also struggle with the in line doubles as well as they are too long to manoeuvre around that first bit.

JanewaysBun · 15/07/2019 20:47

Another vote for the MB duet. The width of a single (narrowest on market) and you can get newborn attachments. Not too pricey second hand

InDubiousBattle · 15/07/2019 21:09

I had a Phil and Teds and it was great on the bus. Dd never had a problem with being in the back seat. Every time I see a side by side on the bus they're struggling. I used buggies on public transport for 4 years or so, I never once had to collapse the buggy for a wheelchair to get on, I wouldn't factor it in tbh.
