Was it easier having closer together or further apart? Thanks Grin

My two are 12mths apart - I’m due with #3 in 3 months - so will have 3 under 3 shortly. I’m still new in the parenting game but I don’t mind the short gaps so far. I’d almost rather get all the newborn years over and done with sooner I think, despite having good sleepers, which seems to be the biggest drawback people have.

I don’t look forward to the days of licensing and legal ages to drink though. Eldest will turn 18 a week before her brother is 17 and the youngest will be 16.. but I’ve plenty of time to figure it out. I hope.

20 months between mines.
Hard when they were little, much easier when they got older as they had the same interests and abilities (ish).

5 years.
Has generally worked out fine.
Only had one set of after school activities to do at a time at primary.
Only had one lot of secondary & GCSEs to focus on.

Hardest bit has been museums when we needed 2 adults so we could be 1-1 as level of engagement different.

small2018 · 10/07/2019 12:52

3 boys! How wonderful!

Was it a surprise when you were told there were 3 in there?!

managedmis · 10/07/2019 12:52

3 years. Decent gap, DS was way too energetic when he was a toddler so coping with him and a screaming DD wouldn't have been fun. By age 3 he'd calmed dwin, then DD was born.

small2018 · 10/07/2019 12:53

@SamStephens - 3 under 3!! 😱

SamStephens · 10/07/2019 12:55

@small2018 hah I know it’s madness.. I’m still reconciling with the reality but DH is taking ok SaHD duties so it might be well worth it!

MumOfDiamonds · 10/07/2019 13:04

DS15 and DD11. They have their moments but they are very close and always have been. Everyone told me they wouldn't get along and I should have had them closer together but they've proven everyone wrong. DS is very protective of his sister and vice versa. It helps that they both have similar interests of dance drama and singing. DS enjoys these more then DD and I think she does them because he does 😊.

We have 2 years between DC1 and DC2. Now they’re in Primary school it’s pretty great, they’re relatively self sufficient (as in not needing constant attention, can feed themselves etc as is the case when they’re little) and they get on really well. When they were 1yo and 3yo I found them exhausting! Needed much more support and interaction and entertaining, when there’s two needing something from you at the same time (and all the time...) it can get a bit overwhelming - for me anyway, I know others who’ve loved having lots of small children in quick succession.

I’m pregnant with DC3, there will be a gap of 4.5 years from DC2. I’m quite looking forward to having just the one tiny one needing more intensive attention, but I do see the bond of DC1 and DC2 and hope that DC3 can have something similar regardless of the age gap.

troppibambini · 10/07/2019 13:18

They were
9,3,13 months and new born.
First gap was biggest and was a breeze, second gap was fine (almost 2 years) dc3 was the easiest baby though so much so that I was pregnant again when he was 14 weeks old.
That was hard 3 under 4 plus a 9 year old I had to get to school.
Now they are 14,8,5 and 4. It's fine. Although they do bicker a lot.

Mopmum35 · 19/07/2019 16:10

I had my first lot.
4 in 4 years
Then I had a rest from pregnancy haha and then had my younger 2 in 13 months.

crankyhousewife · 19/07/2019 16:19

13 months here. It wasn't planned but it was lovely them growing up together (they're 15 & 16 now) and knowing what I know now if I had my time again I'd plan a small age gap. It wasn't easy but parenthood isn't whatever your age gap.

LadyOfTheFlowers · 19/07/2019 16:22

14m between 1 and 2, then 2 year gap, then 16m between 3 and 4

1&2 get on like house on fire, 2nd and 3rd don't get on so well. 3rd and 4th get on ok so who knows? But I personally liked them all close.

SmartPlay · 19/07/2019 18:48

Mine are 12,5 years apart - now aged 14 and almost 2. It's great, because my teenager is helping a lot!
Child 2 and child 3 will probably be almost exactly 2 years apart. We'll see how that goes :D

AlwaysOnAbloodyDiet · 21/07/2019 11:41

7 years between 1&2
3 years between 2&3
