Holidaying with a 7-10 month old

I am expecting to receive about £1,000 soon which has to be given in vouchers. Ideally, I'd want to use it to pay for a holiday and as it would be our first holiday with a baby I'd like some advice
Any good travel agencies (that we can buy vouchers for) for family travel
Ideal areas?
Tips?
Would there be a better time to go (baby will be between 7 and 10 months)
Ideally would prefer all inclusive as I would still be on maternity leave so wouldn't have a lot of spare money.

Thanks in advance!

You'll have started weaning by then. I'd think it will be easier to go when your baby is nearer 7 months than 10 as you'll still be largely B/FF and the baby won't be that mobile yet.

I've heard good things about Tenerife as an all inclusive destination with a baby.

Just got back from holiday with my 11 month old and I said to my husband I don’t think I will travel again with a baby between 7-10 months but it was worth it for the one time.

Top tips—

  1. feed baby on take off
  2. Most flights offer baby boarding first but if we had to do it again, I would get on last and let baby get their energy out before boarding or they get angsty by the time everyone gets on and plane is ready to take off
  3. lots of snacks if baby is weaning
  4. one favourite toy and 1 new toy as it keeps them occupied for a while
  5. we were lucky that our flight times were during nap times so we had a good chunk of sleeping on the plane

Recently went away with 10 month old daughter to Spain, brilliant holiday. Completely different to what we are use to but still loved being together. We had an apartment which made things a lot easier. Put baby to sleep in the bedroom and sit in lounge area or balcony and enjoy a glass of wine. Also made it easier as we had kettle, microwave etc for baby feeding. She loved the plane lots of new faces to look at and pay her attention. Don’t be put off by horror stories online just enjoy it!

I think nearer 10months would be my preference as you will be further on in weaning and can feed most normal foods in restaurants etc rather than having to worry about purees.

I would do somewhere closer than the canaries as it would be a shorter flight.

Use a sling for carrying on and off the plane.

Take a buggy that has a good hood and lie flat for naps.

If you are getting a travel cot at the accommodation it will be unlikely to have a mattress.... might be better to take your own.

You can get formula ordered to collect once you go through security and if you are going somewhere touristy you can stock up on nappies and wipes there.

Have fun!!!

I would actually go earlier. Pre 7 months if you can, even before 6 months. The time between 6-12 months can be challenging, because they’re newly mobile, teething, going through all sorts of developmental things.

I would also think carefully about what you do. Babies don’t really happily do long hours at the pool and definitely not at the beach. So the typical resort holiday can be a bit of a nightmare.

I did a European city break with my 8 month old. It was fine because I planned a good mix of being out and about doing things mixed with time in our flat to let him play and relax. I couldn’t have done a pool/beach sort of holiday. I wouldn’t have ever sat down just trying to keep him from drowning or eating sand.

Thank you all - some really good tips!
I might use the voucher for a centre parcs type thing over here as my DH was already worried about going abroad with an under 1 😊
In which case - does anyone have recommendations for UK breaks around the north west?
