How did you drop middle of night bottle?

I have a 14 week old who wakes for a 2-3am bottle and a 2 year old who wakes around 6am and is non stop. My problem is I can't get back to sleep in time before my toddler wakes and I feel so terrible now three months in. We have only recently stopped having him in pain in the night from reflux now he has correct treatment. I would like to now stop this bottle so much! Please can anyone advise how?

What about trying cosleeping for the beginning of the night, and get your husband to move her when he goes to bed? Might be easier to get her to go to sleep quickly.

When the youngest sleeps through reliably and you don't have to get up at 3am you could go back to what you're doing now

Are you me? 😂 same position, older DD and 10 week old DS. By the time i’ve got DS off, DD is awake for the day. Doing that annoying toddler thing of early rising. A few times over the last few weeks my days have started at 3am. Once it was 1am, I was a zombie that day!

I combat this by going to bed at 8pm after DD is down for the night, DH stays up as late as he can. Last night, i went to bed at 8, DH woke me up nearly 2 hours ago to say DS would need a feed soon. 2 hours later the little bugger is only just stirring, but I havent been back to sleep because I can’t. Had 5 hours sleep and as that’s more than usual, my body sleep. Catch 22 indeed.

I just waited for my dd to sleep through the night (think it was around 16weeks) then didn't feed her again in the night, after if she did wake in the night i just put her back to sleep as knew she could sleep through.

Only used to take her 4 or 5 mins to drink the bottle then back to sleep, i was only out of bed 10mins max, kept it dark and straight nack to sleep. Bottle premade in fridge just needing warming in microwave

Lazy puppy when are you talking about that she drank so quickly then?

@Spainintherain

Always. Even when i was breastfeeding, she would never take more than 10mins to feed.

Once we moved onto bottles, she'd drink it straight down in no more than 5 mins. I didn't realise babies took much longer to drink a bottle, especially only 3 or 4 oz? By 12 months they'll be on the number 3 teat, and if my dd ever used to faff about then it meant she wasn't hungry so i'd take the bottle away.

You need to stay off your phone in the middle of the night, the light will wake you up. I would buy some of the ready made formula, have an empty bottle on your bedside table and then when baby wakes up just pour the formula in and feed in the dark - if you don’t have to get out of bed or put any lights on you might find it easier to go back to sleep.

My daughter is 7 months and still has a night feed (although she is breastfed and apparently they take longer to sleep through). I feed her in the dark and tend to doze through the feed

Thank you. My baby has reflux due to milk allergy and takes prescription milk, has fed slowly as they do and I have to hold him upright at least 15 mins after feed or he will bring up milk.

I would wait for the baby to wake for the 10pm feed, that might push back to midnight ish if you are lucky. After he has done if for a few nights, even if he wakes early, just offer cool boiled water. Then see how that impacts the 3 am waking. If it doesnt move on its own, then each night try and spin the baby out with some cool boiled water for another 15 mins or more. No enough to get them really riled up, but try and get them back to sleep or just cuddled in your arms. What you are trying to do is retrain his stomach to not wake him up at 3 am which is what is probably happening now.

Then you go to be when the baby goes to bed and let DH settle the toddler. DH does the midnight feed and the you do the 3am onwards. That way if you cant get back to sleep, at least you have had 7:30 ish until 3 ish and DH can have midnight to 6am (or whenever he need to leave for work)

15 lbs is plenty big enough to only have 1 night feed at midnight. When you have got the 3am feed eliminated and it is rock solid, move the midnight feed earlier by 15 mins and then wait for 3 nights, then 15 mins earlier and then wait for 3 nights until it is at 9:30 ish. Then just dont do it (and cross your fingers)
