Angelcare sensor pad

I know they're controversial but I would just like some answers from people who have used them.

My DS is 9 months next week, we've used an angelcare sensor pad since birth. He now moves around his cot so much that it alarms at least a few times a night and I have to move him back to the middle of the cot.

Shall I remove the pad? I know he's fine but I like the reassurance that if he stops breathing, it would go off. It's just driving me mad alarming all the time and more importantly, it might wake him up!

We loved ours, and only reluctantly stopped using it when our DS had the sides of his cot removed. Our alarm also used to go off regularly with DS but I still liked the peace of mind so put up with my racing heart every time I heard it at 3am!

We actually had an incident once where it took me a long time to rouse him after the alarm went off. I don't want to be over dramatic but to this day I'm so relieved we had the mat switched on, as my gut told me something wasn't right. If I were you I'd definitely keep it for your peace of mind 😁

Sorry if this is obvious but have you tried increasing the sensitivity to the max? Same thing was happening for us, I increased the sensitivity and now it’s only once every few nights that it happens (for now at least) rather than 3+ times a night when it was on the middle setting.

Ours has only ever gone off once and I'm not convinced she was breathing at the time so am glad it's there. DD is a large lass so maybe that's why it doesn't do false alarms? She also doesn't move much in her sleep. Do you have a cot bed? Ours is a standard cot so smaller. Could also be due to mattress type?

I have loved our sensor mat for both of our girls (3 and 6 months). I currently use it every night for DD2 and take it away with us. Friends told me before DD1 was born that they were awful and not to buy one. I'm pleased I didn't listen to them as it has given me peace of mind over the years. My youngest only slept in sleepyheads so she couldn't roll around that much so it didn't go off, thankfully. That could change for DD2 but I'll probably turn the sensor up to the maximum or maybe put her in our sleepyhead grand.

Our alarm has gone off occasionally over the years including several times when DD2 was a few weeks old and she had a stinking cold.

We had a strong ceiling fan on once on holiday and the mat appeared to be sensing the pressure of the air on the mattress so we have been aware of that ever since. We realised when we took DD1 out and the alarm didn't go off.

@MrsMaow

I didn't think of that actually🤦I will try that, thanks.

@ReganSomerset

It is a cot bed yeah and DS is quite small. If he's down one end of the bed, that's when it generally alarms as he's so far from it.

My brother and sister in law still use there’s and there youngest is 4.
They now use to stop her getting out of bed. Alarm goes off she quickly jumps back in.
