Not confident taking both kids out on my own (4 & 1)

Just wondering if anyone else feels like this or has any tips?

Eldest is almost 4 but has some sesnsory issues and needs constant watching. Youngest is 17 months, so obviously needs direct supervision. I really struggle to take them to places like the park or soft play as they go in different directions and I can't easily watch them both by myself. I'm lucky enough to be off with them over the summer, but I'm trying to plan our days and realising I'm a bit limited. Grandparents will have one so I can have some one on one time with each, but this obviously won't be every day!

Plan play dates so you have extra sets of eyes on your dc. Other mums are more than willing to keep an eye on one child if you need to chase the other.
Establish and reinforce safety lessons. At each outing, remind your dc about important safety issues that are not negotiable. Like staying close to you, walking in car parks, or holding hands crossing the street (ahem). Explain why they need to listen and do as you say. Speak to their level and let them know that cars might not see them if they dash across the street. Or that they need to stay close by so they don’t get lost. Explaining the reason shows you’re not saying it just to be mean but because for a good reason.
And remind them of the privilege of not being on reins or in a pushchair. The freedom to walk around not strapped in means they have to listen to what you say.
Start small. Stick to familiar routes or even a simple walk around the block.
But go. You’ll feel accomplished for having gone out, no matter how exhausting. Plan ahead, do what it takes to make it easier, explain the rules.
