Breast pump recommendations

Could anyone recommend any good but not expensive electric breast pumps? Ideally dual ones.

I'm on day 8 of breastfeeding and although it's better now that DS has had his tongue tie snipped I'm still pretty close to giving up. Being the only one who can feed him is breaking me. DPs been great for moral support and nappies etc but his nipples are useless!

On the day of DS tongue tie appointment i exclusively expressed and my stress levels were so much better. The manual pump however isn't any good for regular use. I'd never leave the house.

Budget is up to 60 quid. Money is very very tight so I can't justify spending more when there's a chance I might give up and formula feed anyway.

Thanks

I bought a Medela swing and then rented a spectra 2 from ana Wiz website for double pumping. I preferred the spectra but had most success with hand expressing.

Details for rentals, fast shipping and good customer service. I got different size cone bits (the bit that goes around the nipple) off ebay.

Morning everyone Smile

I'm feeling like a new woman today. DP gave two expressed feeds last night with me BF and expressing in the middle. Not something he'll be able to keep up when he's back at work but the late evening feed should be doable weshile I go to bed early.

I'm going to order either the haakaa or the naturebond today and do a bit more research into which electric pump to go for. 2nd hand better quality is probably the best idea.

I've realised I'll need to express if I ever want to feed in public. Forgot to mention DS has what has been described as a floppy larynx... the high pitched noises he makes when feeding would draw a lot of attention!

@modgepodge when I was using mine it collected all the fatty milk as well, and definitely collects more than just what would be let down into a pad. I think if you just collected the leakage you could use one of the shell things, but the suction draws out lots more milk than just normal leakage.

When DC was cluster feeding, I used to collect the milk on the other side and immediately decant into a bottle to feed him so my boobs got a break. Cluster feeding is horrible, so any sort of break was fab. Milk was also at the perfect temperature already so there was no faffing.

When was the tongue tie divided? It can take a while for feeding to improve - maybe give it a week or so (after the division was done) before deciding? You might be pleasantly surprised, in most cases baby should get much more efficient at getting milk from the breast after the tongue tie is cut.

Breastfeeding was really difficult for us until DS's tongue tie was divided and then it just got easier and easier!

At this stage I recommend the Haakaa pump (or similar). You can use it on one boob while feeding from the other (but it can be tricky when baby gets bigger and wrigglier, DS used to knock or kick it off sometimes!) I had mixed success (sometimes got a decent amount of milk, other times nothing) but it was so easy it didn't really matter.

If you are absolutely sure that you want to do a lot of expressing, you should hire a hospital grade pump. The next best option is to buy a second hand closed system pump such as the Ardo Calypso. (Look up open v closed system pumps for an explanation about why it should be a closed one.)
