mine are all older now but our routine was along the lines of:

wake up
have breakfast
dc sit on bathroom floor with a book/toys whilst i shower
dress dc
outing (park) or playing in the garden
lunch
nap
playtime
pick older dc up
bathtime
storytime
bed

sorry if i missed anything, it has been a few years now x

Exactly 12 months, or older? So much happens 12-23 months, the routine changed a lot over that time.

sar302 · 04/07/2019 19:46

12 months

6.00 awake
Breakfast etc
9.00-10.30 nap
Lunch/ playing / main activity of the day etc
1.30 - 3.30 nap
general stuff / dinner / bedtime routine
7.00 asleep

19 months

7.00 / 7.30 awake 🙌🏻
breakfast, activity, lunch
12.30-2.30/3.00 nap
Snack / activity / dinner / bath
7.00 asleep

Cross over period of about 2-3 months transitioning from 2-1 naps.

Like others have said, massive difference depending on where they are in that first year.

6am-7am: wake up, milk straight away
7:15: breakfast
May have nap between 10 and 11 but I only allow 15 mins as I’ve got a toddler so need them to nap at the same time. She doesn’t need more than that as she’s perfectly happy after a cat nap.
10:30: snack
11:45: lunch
12:30: sleep for 2-2.5 hours
3pm: milk
5pm: dinner
6pm bath
6:30 night garden and milk
7pm: bed

All three of min are so different. My 1st dropped morning nap at 15m and never slept for more than an hour at lunch until almost 2. My second only dropped her morning nap at 2 and a half and would still would sleep for 45 mins in the morning and 2+ hours at lunch.

@sar302 my 12 month dd’s routine is exactly the same as the routine you’ve posted for your 12 month old.

I’d given up hoping that we might eventually move to a) a later start to the day and b) just one longer nap. Do you mind me asking how you did this?

Dd wakes so early in the morning that I can’t keep her awake past 10am latest- which obviously means she then can’t last til bedtime and so needs the afternoon nap.....and the cycle continues!

Did it just naturally happen? Thanks (sorry to hijack the thread OP!)

Obviously we are doing activities in the morning and afternoon.

Also, if this is to do with sleep, my first slept through night at 3m, second at 6 weeks, 3rd still wakes up 2-3 times a night for to reason at all.

Spanglyprincess1 · 04/07/2019 20:02

So. Jealous. My one year old is appalling at sleeping.
Routine is 5 am up.
Bf milk
Play for an hour
Breakfast 6.30 ish
Play
Nap 7 till 8.30am
Out playgroup etx
Lunch around 12.30
Play with toys
Nap if I'm very lucky 2-3pm, sometimes refuses
Play with toys or for walk
Dinner 6
Bath 6.30
Story at milk 7
Two plus hours trying to get him. To sleep.
Sleep. Around 9 - 9.30 pm
Up 11 pm or 1am screaming for no reason. 30 min to settle

Thanks everyone ! And yes 12 months exactly @Ricekrispie22 :)) my dd could go to bed at say 9:15 and get up at 10 the next morning, I find it really hard to get up In the mornings to get her up earlier so I think I need a routine I can get into the hand of 🥴🥴 I want to be able to get up at 7 and have her asleep earlier

@Mariecat1970 It's not a great answer I'm afraid, as we did very little. He was generally an excellent sleeper - despite the slightly early mornings - then had a hellish 18 month sleep regression, where he woke up at 4.30am and only napped for 45mins everyday for 6 weeks! We got into that same cycle of overtiredness. Then one day it stopped, and now here we are! (With very blacked out windows and loud white noise as a safety precaution!)

With regards to one nap, everything I read said about transitioning sometime between 15-18 months. 12 months would definitely have been too early for my DS. If she's still needing that nap after 3.5hrs or so, it's probably too early to think about it.

Good luck - baby sleep is stressful!
